But It's Useful!
Last night my husband was having an out of mind experience. He came home and told me he knew what he was going to get me for a present - SHOES! Now I LOVE shoes and the thought of getting shoes could make me smile even if you had just shaved my cat bald (ok... That would probably be somewhat funny on it's own), but I had a FEELING that I needed to ask more about these shoes. So I asked the important question right up front "Are they pretty?" he said no... This is how the conversation went:
Him: But they are supposed to be the most comfortable shoes...
Me: (cutting him off) But are they pretty?
Him: Just think of how nice it will be to come home after a long day on your feet and how great they will feel!
Me: Are we talking orthopedic shoes? Old people shoes? What do I look like? Why do I want Ugly Shoes???
Him: Your feet will feel like they've been massaged - even after your long day on your feet!
Me: (starting to think he was brainwashed by the shoe manufacturer) Why... Do... I... Want... Ugly... Shoes?
Him: but they are comfortable! Someone at the meeting had them on and were just raving about how comfortable they are!
Me: Why do you want to buy me ugly shoes?
Him: Because they are useful?
Me: Since when have you ever bought me a present because it was useful?
Him: (thinking) um.. Never
Me: And what makes you think that after 11 and a half years you should change this? Don't buy me ugly shoes. Buy me pretty, shiny, funny... But not ugly shoes.
(later after looking up the shoes on the internet) Me:Shit! Those are UGLY!
Him: But they are comfortable
Me: Yeah and they cost $169 for ugly!
Him: Yikes! You're not getting the shoes.
Men need a 'shopping for women' class sometimes.

Darn That Sock!
Tonight when I went to put the little people down (for the 4th time) Cabbage Patch had Monkey Sandwich, it seems that Monkey Sandwich is suffering a separated shoulder... Or should I say a separation of the shoulder - her arm is nearly off. Cabbage Patch was upset about this 'boo-boo'. I told her I needed to fix Monkey Sandwich and asked her if she wanted me to fix it tonight to which she replied 'No!' and snuggled the monkey close. Looks like I'll be darning a sock (monkey) soon... And I thought I'd never be doing something like that...

Pain
I've got a desperately bad sinus headache at the moment. So bad that I even let hubby drug me... No, no, I begged him to drug me. I'm just sitting here waiting for this stuff to kick in and make me sleepy. It's almost 8:30 pm and I'm contemplating turning in for the evening - that is how freaking bad my head hurts. I'm a little afraid that I'm going to screw up my sleep schedule and end up sitting here at 4 am trying to pass the time until a sane hour to start doing laundry and vacuuming the livingroom.
More Sock News
No, no I haven't magically found my missing socks (although I think I will try Sasoozie's suggestion of washing all the singletons together in hopes of their mates showing up.... G-d only knows why that would work, but for some reason it sounds reasonable to me... Maybe it's jealously that will lure the missing socks out... Or maybe socks enjoy being in the dryer... Kind of like a party... And the sounds of a party lures them out... ya know kind of like how the sounds of drunken slutty women attracts sleazy men.. Or vice versa). This morning it was a bit chilly in my livingroom so I slipped on some socks... A red one and a purple one. My feet were toasty yet uncoordinated.
A Sock Of A Different Kind
Recently my sister asked for her sock monkey that I had made for her. I made Monkey Sandwich (the sock monkey's name) back in May or June and Monkey Sandwich has resided here ever since. During this time, Monkey Sandwich has gone from sitting on my entertainment center shelf and now resides somewhere upstairs in the little people's room. (insert dramatic music here) All of the trappings that I had attached to Monkey Sandwich are long gone - the hair, the fringe skirt, the bright red ribbon... All lost and forgotten. The other day when D asked to take possession of Monkey Sandwich I had to tell her no. Tonight when hubby put the little people to bed he came down and told me how Cabbage Patch loves "That Sock Monkey" so much. So D, I'm sorry, I can't grant you custody of Monkey Sandwich - you're going to have to get a court order to get that damned sock monkey! (or just ask me to make you another one)
One Last Sock
Somehow I know that the whole missing sock thing is hubby's fault (I'm allowed to say everything is his fault - it's in the marriage contract) - and as retaliation I plan to raid his sock drawer and make a bunch of angry albino sock monkeys out of his socks. Then I'll sneak into his room late one night and scatter the angry albino sock monkeys around his room and wait for the screams the next morning. Oh yeah... I'm evil... evil to the bone... (ok, maybe just really bizarre and mischievous)
Hmmm... I think maybe this medicine is kicking in now... I should stop posting now... Go work on my manifesto or something... ;o)

Transient Socks
This morning I took 15 precious minutes to search for matching socks - any socks, just as long as there are two of them. I finally found two that were similar enough (same color) to wear. I hate that. I have a love hate relationship with socks. I love cute socks, warm socks, soft socks, short socks, fuzzy socks, colored socks, white socks - I do love socks, I especially love having socks when I want socks. But I hate socks also. I don't really like wearing socks all the time - my feet prefer the freedom of nakedness or a pair of slip on shoes for near nakedness. Hell I stay home with my kids 5 days a week, I don't' have to wear shoes. When I do wear shoes I prefer it to be pretty shoes that don't require socks but occasionally it is shoes that do require socks and then I'm back to where I was this morning - sock searching. I've bought hundreds of pairs of socks over the years and the same damn thing happens with all of them. After a while I end up not being able to find matching pairs. Sometimes my socks would end up in the sock drawer of the Emperor of Socks' (aka hubby) and I would have to search them out among all the long white athletic socks. I tried for a while to buy only colored socks for myself to make it easier for my socks to be separated from his socks and therefore not end up trapped in his drawer, but that didn't work either, I still had to go on search and rescue sock missions and eventually I would never see my brightly colored socks again... Well at least not as a pair. I kept buying the SAME kind of socks for myself for a few years, my thought was that even if I lost some, since I already had several half pairs, I would be able to find at least a few socks to match up. Wonderful theory, but not something that actually works in the REAL world. I still can NOT manage to find a pair of MY socks! I found a cream colored sock with flowers, a red sock, a white sock, a short white sock with a cow on it, a purple sock, a black and white cow spotted sock and a dark blue sock. Grrr... Yesterday I had managed to get terribly lucky and find a matching pair of white and pink socks in my drawer (why the hell didn't I play the lottery yesterday!!!) - I haven't a clue how they got IN the drawer - I honestly do NOT recall putting them in there, nor to I recall seeing them in there before yesterday morning and I have been in that drawer just about every morning so I should know what's in there. After 15 minutes of searching this morning I managed to find a sock of hubbys that looked similar enough to one of mine and that's what I wore. I generally take a pair of his from the laundry but there weren't any socks in the dryer today. Why is it that all of MY socks disappear and all of hubby's socks seem to stay find able. That man has probably a hundred pairs of socks!!! I don't know why he buys them... I don't even remember him buying THAT many socks! Where do his come from???? Is he some how turning MY socks into his socks? Is there some kind of Evil Sock Magic going on here? Is my husband practicing the art of Black Sock Magic????
um... What the hell?... Better go to bed now...

Living On The Edge
Well if you think getting a tattoo is 'walking on the wild side' just read this. Today me and the little ones got a bath. I realized I needed to shave my legs - I sometimes meet my sancho on Friday nights. There's nothing more dangerous than holding a razor to your freshly washed skin while two hyper children splash around you. So here I was all soaped up, snapping at the little people to be still while I attempted to remove unwanted hair from my body - and just between you and I, that's a lot of hair. I don't really like to shave in the tub, although the tub is more convenient for some areas than others but I still don't really like it. Shaving in the shower is better but more rushed as we don't have a large hot water tank - that's always special, shaving one leg in the nice hot water then rushing to finish the other before I get goose bumps, and don't even think of shaving the pubes in a cold shower! And the worst part of shaving - in the tub with kids or rushed in the shower is when you miss a part and end up with a mohawk up the side of one leg. I mean other areas of the body can be hidden or hell you can just pretend you meant to make it that shape, but not your leg. So there I was taking my life in my own hands, trying to shave with the kids bumping me. Somehow I did manage to get it done with no blood loss and I seem to have gotten all the unsightly hair as well. *sigh* the things I do to make a booty call.

You are Form 4, Gargoyle: The Fallen.
"And The Gargoyle mended his wings from the
blood of the fallen so he could rise up from
imprisonment. With great speed and
resourcefulness, Gargoyle made the world his
for the taking."
Some examples of the Gargoyle Form are Daedalus
(Greek) and Mary Magdalene (Christian).
The Gargoyle is associated with the concept of
success, the number 4, and the element of wood.
His sign is the new moon.
As a member of Form 4, you are a creative and
resourceful individual. You are always
thinking of possible solutions to problems you
face and you generally choose one that is
right. Much of your success comes from your
ability to look at things a little differently
than everyone else. Gargoyles are the best
friends to have because they don't always take
things for face value.

Activism Gone Too Far...
Let me explain this... The sticker above says 'Cruelty Free Circus'. Last week I got a bunch of materials (including the above stickers) for a group that protests circus' as cruel to animals. I'm actually torn as to whether to support an organization like this or enjoy the circus. I really do think that circus' and other types of entertainment venues that force animals to perform are cruel, I'm not even all that keen on zoos... But I have to admit I do love to see the circus and the zoo. So I'm a hypocritical animal rights protester. Anyway, the little people have LOVED the info from the anti-circus people - especially the stickers! Tonight after the little people were off to bed, hubby said "Judy... Look at your cat." I did. The laughter was great. I told him to put the cat down for now, I had to get a picture before we pulled that off. Notice the pissy cat expression. Lucky for Sunshine the sticker came off pretty easily - one swift yank by me, and since she has been getting her winter coat in, she didn't really loose a noticeable amount of fur. And the lesson for tonight... Cats are NOT a good place for a bumper sticker!

Permanent Art
About a month ago a dear friend of mine told me she and her husband were considering getting tattoos. He would get the redneck special - a rebel flag with her name and she would get one that featured his name (her's would be very small as opposed to his which would start with the flag on his left arm and end with the fluttering edge on his right arm - very tasteful). I've always considered getting inked but I've never been able to pin down exactly what I would want to put on myself for the rest of my life. I pretty much nixed anything like my husband or lover's name as one never knows if anything like that really would last - also my step mother has her ex husband's name (BUD) on her arm and I know for a fact she regrets that since she and he got divorced about 22 or 23 years ago! My dad has his nick name on his forearm - Ed - I think that's just stupid. My brother has Multiple tattoos - one being his last name in script on his back (9 letters - I'm actually surprised they had enough room on the scrawny boy. His brother-in-law went with him and was impressed that he sat there for all that time and never shed a tear) - No way in hell would I consider my last name (past or present or even future). I had said since having children that if I ever got anything permanent it would be something symbolic of my children - like a sun rise and a moon setting. Anyway when my friend was over talking about the tattoo thing I said something about that, hubby walked into the conversation as my friend stepped out for a moment and he laughed, when my friend came back in I mentioned the sun and the moon thing (hubby went upstairs for a moment) and my friend said "You would have to get them done like tarot cards, the Sun, The Moon and The Empress (me)". For the FIRST time ever getting inked sounded like a really cool idea. So now I'm thinking of how I'd want the cards to look - I already know where I'd get the tattoo - on my lower back. I know - it sounds wacky, but I'm just thinking.

Incoherent Ramblings
Yesterday my hot, hunky, super sexy (imaginary) boyfriend Antonio whisked me off in his private plane to spend the day with him down at the beach. We walked on the beach and ate lobster and drank expensive wine for lunch at this quaint little restaurant. We discussed where to spend our vacation between interruptions by calls from his business associates. Gosh I hate cell phones in times like these. I finally persuaded him to turn off his cell phone in the afternoon - I reasoned that we had to head back around 6 pm since he had a dinner meeting at 7 pm and I had to pick up my kids from the nanny. We dipped our toes in the gulf one more time before jetting back up here. It was delightful.
OK, REALLY... I went to my sisters house to hang out.
*Little break from my rambling - hubby just headed up to bed after doing the dishes, he called me to come upstairs. In front of his room was our oldest asleep on the floor. It was very cute. He picked her up and put her back in bed.
I left her house with just enough time to go by the gas station and get some gas before picking up hubby from work right at 5 pm. I drive into Dallas and pull off the freeway to get gas. As I sit at the pump and dig through my purse which my two children have recently rearranged by taking the contents out of my wallet and dumping into my purse, I realized that I do NOT have my bank card in my purse, so I can NOT get gas here. I express my displeasure to the little people and drive to the nearest grocery store praying that I have enough gas to get me there. In the store I remember that the 13th was Columbus Day and the instore bank will be closed like every other bank - this all comes to me as I stare blankly at the mesh gate pulled down infront of the bank counter. *sigh* Well I need milk anyway. We quickly walk toward the milk area but I get side tracked as I see WINE. Ahhhhh yes! We are in Dallas and THAT means I can BUY WINE! (I live in a dry area) A detour down the wine area, two bottles of cheap wine, back to the milk area then off to check out. I briefly wonder what the checker thinks as I place my two bottles of wine and two gallons of milk on the counter. (yeah and if she had given me a dirty look I probably would have said "What? I got to have something to drink too!") I write a check for my beverages and write it for $15 over so I can fill my tank. Off to the gas station. My car is filled with $13. When I get back in the car after paying I see that Super Girl has something, I ask what it is, we negotiate briefly and I discover she has a container of gum... A container of gum she STOLE from the store. I'm crushed. My initial urge is to go back to the store and make her pay for the gum and apologize for stealing it but I'm now late and in dire fear of getting caught in rush hour traffic. Super Girl is chastised, we zip off to get hubby, he's not to irritated that we are 20 minutes late thankfully. As we are bringing in stuff from the trunk (D gave me LOTS of things to take with me) some of the neighbor kids are hanging around. One little boy maybe 7 or 8 insists on telling me that his brother likes my daughter. This makes me want to giggle. Super Girl has an admirer. Hubby gives some of the local kids a few of the candy bars that are in the box of things and instantly makes friends with them. I made pizza for dinner while hubby explained to Super Girl why stealing is BAD. The kids went to bed without a fuss and hubby and I headed off to bed early (for us) as we were both just beat. About midnight I woke and saw a light under my door. I wondered if I had forgotten to turn off my fish tank light and got up. The kitchen light was on and Super Girl was coming out of the kitchen. I asked her why she was out of bed, she said something about wanting to sleep with me then said she was thirsty. I let her have a couple of sips of the milk she had just poured and took her back to bed with me - which means I didn't get all that much sleep. Sleeping with a wiggly 4 year old can NEVER be described as restful (on a side note when I was a little kid and we would visit our great grand mother she would always have us sleep with her, and she would be up at the crack of dawn making breakfast the next morning - I always wondered how she could do that with out an alarm clock... Well now I know...) This morning I discovered my fish food by the fish tank and food scattered on the tank cover so apparently super girl had tried to feed the fish as well as get a drink.
Off to bed now... tired... have to do laundry tomorrow... I mean I have to spend the day with Antonio... ;o)

I mean I have to spend the day with Antonio... ;o)

Just Thinking...
I started thinking tonight about my imaginary boyfriend (IBF) and I guess my totally neurotic side of me started to worry that someone might think I was SERIOUS about this IBF - as if I TRULY intended to fool people into thinking I had some fabulous hunky sex machine, or worse people might think that I might actually BELIEVE that I have a fabulous hunky sex machine boyfriend. Or the ABSOLUTE worst, that people might think that I'm so freaking desperate for male companionship that I would get an IBF to make me feel worthwhile. Let me just get this in the open, IBF is just a joke. I never have nor ever will pretend to be in a relationship (although there were plenty of times I've pretended to NOT be in a relationship when I really was). I'm not desperately seeking male companionship - I have a husband (a gay one) and I have a sancho, I currently don't have a boyfriend and I'm not really sure I want one right now (maybe I want a girlfriend... Just teasing). IBF is for entertainment purposes only (hell I'll probably break up with him right after we return from our virtual vacation).
Why do I bring this up? Well I think a lot on the way to and from work - I have a 20 minute drive and there's not much traffic. I started thinking about IBF and then it struck me that I knew people who had IBFs - hell in my own family even! And all of them had some things in common - they were all delusional about this relationship, they all thought people believed them completely and everyone saw them as pathetic. Let me illustrate, I worked with this one woman, I'll call her Dora, Dora was in her mid 20's and had never had a boyfriend or a date. Dora wasn't ugly or deformed or anything like that - she was actually quite pretty, a little heavy, and she was generally depressed and fundamentally religious. When I first met Dora she was very mater of fact about the never had a boyfriend or a date thing, some time later she started talking about this man who was in one of her singles bible study classes, a few months later she became somewhat obsessed with this man and would talk about him constantly, within 6 months he started dating someone seriously and she was crushed as by this time she had decided in her mind that he and she had been dating, within a month she had decided that they had been boyfriend and girlfriend and she was very distraught over their 'break up', by the time he was engaged to his real girlfriend Dora was near to having a nervous break down. It was all quite sad.
The family member with the IBF was really bad about this. I remember as a child her saying how a certain local television newcaster was her lover but that he just wouldn't leave his bitch wife - she obsessed over this man for years and even named one of her cats after him (I hated that cat). Another time she spoke of a young man who worked at a book store as her lover - maybe, it's possible, but my sister and I seriously doubt it as she was old enough to be his grandmother. Then the one my sister and I laugh about the most, she talked at one time of having a relationship with a man my sister and I knew was quite openly GAY. Through the years she has maintained that she has had relationships with everyone from the president of the united states to Army big-wigs yet NO ONE can verify that she has had a date in the past 25 - 30 years. It's disturbing really.
Anyway, keep in mind that IBF is just a joke for me. I don't need anyone organizing an 'intervention' for me or for people to start sending me bottles of anti-depressants.

Net Worth
I just had my soul valued, here are the results:
Your soul is worth £22416. For your peace of mind, 43% of people have a purer soul than you.
Go see what yours is worth WWYS®
At the end put in an e-mail addy for a friend, then the message "Did you know that you can increase the purity of your soul by purchasing one simple product?", click on the link - the music is very cool.

Memories
I just had the oddest memory. I was looking at some cool hippy jewlery and I saw this sterling silver orb pendant and it reminded me of one my mother had. It made and odd ringing-jingling sound when you shook it. She would giggle like a 2 year old when she shook it. Mom gave D & I most of her jewlery shortly before she died, but I don't know where that ended up.
Update
My sister's comment just reminded me that mom used to call that orb her HAPPINESS! She loved that so much, I think that's a perfect name for it.

The Name Game
Since I've made the decision that I'm going to embark on a fictitious relationship with an imaginary man, it's time to flesh things out so to speak! I've never had an imaginary boyfriend so I'm going to need some help from ya'll with all this. First things first, he needs a name. I want an interesting manly slightly exotic name. Names I will not consider because I know people who DO have those names: Paul (he's a jerk), John (he's an ass), Scott (he's my nephew), Ted (relative), Todd (ex-boss & asshole), Bob (sister's exhusband), Peter (dear friend who's like a brother), Chad (jerk), Stewart (pussy)...
Names I might consider... Mike - I have two friends named Mike, one is super hot and I'd do him the other is like a brother so that would just be sick... Also I've had 3 lovers named Mike one was a fabulous lover, one sucked and the other could have been better, Dave - I've known several Daves, most were great guys, Anthony - I like the it - makes me think of hot Mafia men.
Next my fake boyfriend needs a profession. Something good, enviable but not too good. Nothing boring but nothing to dangerous. I've gone out with my share of executives, sales men and investment bankers so none of them. Something where he has to wear a suit a few times a week and he has to look devastatingly handsome yet stylish. Something that requires him to travel occasionally but not all the time - oh yeah and he has to be making big bucks - who else would be bank rolling this virtual vacation? ;o)

Bizarre News
This story gave me a giggle. Penis snatcher... hehehehe.... Sounds like a porn title.
Suspected Penis Snatcher Beaten to Death
2 hours, 8 minutes ago
Add Oddly Enough - Reuters to My Yahoo!
BANJUL (Reuters) - A 28-year-old man accused of stealing a man's penis through sorcery was beaten to death in the West African country of Gambia on Thursday, police said.
A police spokesman told Reuters that Baba Jallow was killed by about 10 people in the town of Serekunda, nine miles from the capital Banjul.
Reports of penis snatching are not uncommon in West Africa, with purported victims claiming that alleged sorcerers simply touched them to make their genitals shrink or disappear in order to extort cash in the promise of a cure.
The police spokesman said many men in Serekunda were now afraid to shake hands, and he urged people not to believe reports of "vanishing" genitals. Belief in sorcery is widespread in West Africa.
Seven alleged penis snatchers were beaten to death by angry mobs in Ghana in 1997.

Vacation Time!
I've been whining for at least a year about how I need a vacation. Circumstances always get in the way - mostly my general lack of MONEY. Lately several of the people who keep blogs that I read have gone on VACATION - the bastards! (no really, I'm not jealous, why do you ask?) I've decided that it's MY TIME now. I WILL TAKE a vacation - a well thought out and planned VACATION. And it will be EVERYTHING a vacation should be - fun, sun, parties and men. You may be wondering HOW I will manage to take a fabulous vacation - it's simple, I'm going to take it in my crazy little head. Yup, you read that right, it's all going to be made up - a virtual vacation if you will. I'm going to plan it and write about all the adventures there, then I'm going to (pretend to) leave on said vacation and I'll even have (fake) vacation photos to go with it - I think I might even take my (imaginary) fabulous and sexy boyfriend with me. I'll make sure to take my lap top (not real one) with me so I can update this site.
So... Any suggestions where I should go?

Shaddap Already
I had this post in mind, an angry post about all the things I"m irritated or pissed about (and believe me that could drag on for pages and pages), but then... I read all the blogs I usually read and a couple I don't usually read and I thought "Enough! Shut the hell up already!" I'm in no mood to hear (read) anyone else rant about anything, hell I don't even want to hear myself rant! I've had enough political griping, relationship moaning and general bitching for one day... Maybe even for the week. Is it possible for people to have a pleasant thought? To post a positive note? Maybe be funny? Life is to short to stand around bitching so much.

Total Honesty
Ya know, the best part of having a man pull the "Let's Just Be Friends" bullshit is that I can be totally brutally fucking honest with them now. No more trying to make a good impression. No more holding my tongue when I really want to point out how freaking stupid something is. Yeah I'm a bitch.

Just In Time For Halloween
I found this site Awful Plastic Surgery last week, I can't for the life of me remember where I found it, but I have been constantly amused by it. Go, it will creep you out as much as it will amuse you.

Kitty Dress-Up
This site will put any of my past efforts of dressing up my cats to absolute shame (although I think the real ones who felt the same were the cats...)... I MUST try harder now!!!! Thanks Jake 8bitjoystick for the site! I laughed heartily!

The Bucket Has Been Kicked
Aegir passed away quietly today sometime after noon. It appears he died of natural causes, no autopsy will be preformed as that would just be disgusting. A burial at sea was preformed this evening just after 8 pm. All of Aegir's tank mates appear to be greiving and in shock and have had no comment.
Aegir, you will be missed.

August
Which month are you?
brought to you by Quizilla
BWHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!! I am August! My Birthday is in August - This fits so well.
Dead Fish Swimming
Damn it! One of my fish is doing poorly - one of my newest fish also! Aegir is not likely to be alive by tomorrow. I'm sad. I liked him. Super Girl is sad also - she stood at the tank and shouted for him to get better. hehehehe... *sigh* and of all days... Yom Kippur. Great one more thing to feel guilty about - fish death.
Anyway - plenty happened this weekend, don't feel like writing about it because it kind of SUCKED! Maybe tonight will be better (I won't get hopelessly lost and not be able to hook up with my Sancho)
Today is Yom Kippur , so this is pretty much going to be my only entry today as I will be spending the rest of today in prayer, fasting and reading scripture (and of course chasing after the little people). Peace to all - May you be written in for a good year!

Somebody Give Me A Gun!
Shit! Men are pissing me off today. What the fuck is wrong with all you men? Is it the phase of the moon that's making ya'll act like assholes? Somebody tell me please!
I mean fuck - My brother has pulled another one of his disappearing acts that is always preceded by a huge pack of lies and a veil of 'secrecy', my dad called me to tell me this as well as the fact that he JUST GOT OUT of the hospital for heart issues - WTF? Can he not tell his bitch of a wife to pick up the fucking phone and call me? My nephew has been acting like such a dumb fuck he got his ass tossed out of the house, one of my sisters clients is acting like such a mamby-pamby wishy-washy titty-baby that she's about ready to drop him, one man who professed his affections over and over has suddenly given me the 'oh let's just be friends' bullshit and my sancho keeps making dates only to cancel shortly after (pissing me off of course). What is going on? Hello!! Would ALL of the SANE MEN PLEASE move to the front?
Ok, I'm done ranting now... ya'll can move along now... Nothing to see here. ;o)

Nothing to see here. ;o)
Redneck Toddler
My youngest was trying to feed one of the cats pork rinds. hehehe... I'm not sure if the cat ate them or Cabbage Patch ate them, I just know they were gone a few minutes later. Hmmm... I wonder.... If the cats will eat pork rinds, hell I could save some money on cat food! hehehe... ;o)

Footprints
Tonight my little darlings were laughing and playing (translation - tonight my bratty little kids were wound up like tops, running around screaming and screeching) - while I cheerfully prepared a delightful dinner (translation - while I scowled in the kitchen trying to prepare dinner for them to turn their nose up at). After a prolonged period of time, my beloved returned home to joyous noises of frivolity (translation - hubby had to work late, after what seemed like a fucking life-time he got home to the little heathens shrieking like banshees). We enjoyed a delicious family dinner with lively conversation and much entertainment (translation - the little people immediately turned their noses up at the beans and rice, Super Girl whined for an hour about how much she didn't want to eat beans while Cabbage Patch only ate hers as long as she had pork rinds to scoop them up with, we continually told Super Girl to keep her whining down to a mere whisper so we could watch Enterprise which she also whined about not wanting to watch). As hubby and I enjoyed a bit of camaraderie the little darlings romped and played in a cloud of fancy (translation - hubby and I downed a glass of cheap wine in a lame attempt to forget the children were acting like maniacs as the kids snuck into my bathroom and procured the baby powder). As we took our little ones off to bedie-bye we witnessed little footprints of angels (translation - we saw that they had poured the powder on the floor by the little power footprints and then got the priviledge of cleaning up all the fucking powder). What joy.

The BEST $.99 I Ever Spent!
Friday's shopping trip turned up an unlikely gem. The kids wanted a toy and I got Cabbage Patch a toy microphone. Super Girl wanted some chalk stuff instead. Well the microphone became the star attraction shortly after getting home. Cabbage Patch stood on a chair and sang (babbled) at me giving a lovely performance. When Super Girl got it she did the same, making up song after song then introducing her sister at intervals. It was funny. At nearly bed time on Friday I took said microphone away from them as they were fighting over it. I started playing with it. It's addictive. I did a lounge comedy act for hubby. He wanted to kill me by bed time though. I loved that microphone.
Saturday... While I was at work, hubby took the kids to the store to get milk and stuff, well he also stopped off at Big Lots and guess what he did... He spent $3 to get 3 more microphones. One for each of us. hehehehe... Oh yeah...

BUSY, BUSY, BUSY
Fuck, I've been exceptionally busy... This is the first few moments I've had to myself since mid-day Friday.
Friday was Rosh Hashana. On Thursday I had discussed how I would take the car and do all the usual crap I do on Fridays, but by the end of the evening I said 'Fuck it, I don't want to' and negotiated with hubby to get groceries for Rosh Hashana. This was a brilliant idea... In theory at least. You already read about the battery thing that happened Friday morning, so I won't rehash that. I walked to the store with the little people to get some things, I got side tracked by the new Tuesday Morning that opened up where the Hastings used to be and we just went to the Big Lots and skipped the grocery store. That of course means I didn't get shit off the list for Rosh Hashana. Lucky for me I generally have a pretty well stocked pantry and had plenty to make for dinner - hubby would just have to pick up a few things. Later that evening while I'm preparing dinner I realized two things - one - I forgot to make Challah and two - I forgot how much I needed to get done before sundown... Well three also, I forgot to check when sundown was. *sigh* Anyway, I did finally get dinner finished, candles lit and prayers said. The dinner was fabulous - especially the meat filled pasta I made, served in a delicious, savory beef consume. Desert was less than great though - I always go through this, trying to find the perfect honey cake... This years cake was ok, almost icky.
Saturday
Saturday was a busy fun day. Work was long and profitable and we had plans to go to the The Corndog Festival! Our dear friend Peter finagled his sister into baby sitting for us, so we could all attend. It was a blast. We put together a cool entry - didn't remember to bring my camera this year so no cool pics. I started drinking shortly after getting my corndog for the evening. Drinks were moderately priced and came in BIG cups. I started getting drunk. And when I'm drunk... Well I say Fuck a lot (I do say it a fair amount while I'm sober) and I'm a slut (yeah, yeah I'm a slut when I'm sober also.. Just not as much). The part of all this that sucked - there were a LOT of GAY men there. Yeah my chances of getting 'lucky' with anyone other than myself (and fuck, I wasn't interested in that, I've already done me!) were slim and none. So I just kept drinking. People like to ply me with alcohol, apparently I'm very entertaining while I'm drunk (I'm somewhat entertaining while sober also, but I'm a lot less obnoxious while drunk). The judging happened - I really didn't look at all that many of the other entries but I had seen some of the ones that won and I was irritated that I DIDN'T win AGAIN! So I bitched and moaned... Or bitched and stumbled around like a drunk ho. Anyway, while I was whining and holding my losing entry one of the people who put the whole thing on, saw me and felt some sympathy for my pathetic state and gave me a weenie prize! A left over. eh, who cares - I WON SOMETHING! (yes I did yell that when she gave me the bag - I'm such a dork when I'm drunk) It's a T-shirt from the bar, but it's a pretty cool T-shirt... And I WON IT (sort of). I'll link to the official picture of my entry when they have it on the site.

Low Battery
Soooo.... How are you? Me, I'm fine. Yeah... Have I mentioned that my brother-in-law sucks? No? Well he does. Let me elaborate.
Yesterday when hubby started up the car to come home he noticed the battery light on. He called his brother who used to be a mechanic to get some advice yesterday evening after dinner and a quick trip to the grocery store. Bro-in-law said he would need to replace the battery, so go to Auto Zone they only cost about $30. Since it was after 8 pm hubby planned to do it today. OK, in retrospect he probably SHOULD have done it yesterday but he didn't get paid until TODAY, hence him planning to do it today. This morning the car wouldn't start so hubby calls his brother who lives less than 5 miles from us to get a jump. His brother says "Dude, I'm not sure when I can make it over, G (his son) is still sleeping and V (his wife) is getting ready to leave for work." Hubby says fine and gets off - pissed now. He calls his father who lives about 20 minutes from us and asks him to come over and give him a jump - not a problem. I know I could have called my sister who lives 45 minutes (in light traffic and an hour or more in rush hour) from me and she would have come right over (but I hesitate to do that since her SUV would use $40 in gas to get here). What a selfish ASS my bro-in-law is.
ps Hubby was especially pissed that the battery was dead because it SAYS it's a 6 year battery and out car is only about 2 years old.

Catching Up and Such
Yesterday was not all that busy but D came over so I spent from 2 pm until nearly 6 pm bs-ing with her. It's always nice to do that. Here is what has been occurring at my domicile....
Wednesday's Dinner Guest
Most of Wednesday was a nice peaceful day. After naps I decided to drag out the paints and let the little people do some painting. I know what your thinking, the same thing I am thinking at this very moment... "What the hell was I thinking?!?!?" Knowing full well that hubby was going to bring a friend home for dinner I still spread the tarp on the table, prepared paint trays for the kids, got the paint brushes, etc. I also got out supplies for ME to do some painting myself. I painted Super Girl's chair (I haven't finished yet). Of course before the end of painting Cabbage Patch had painted her face and most of her exposed skin. I ended the painting a little after 4 pm so I could clean up and get dinner started. I sent Hubby an e-mail asking when he would be arriving with his friend, but by 5 pm hadn't gotten an answer back and started dinner. Part way through browning the cutlets Super Girl yells "Mommy, she's got ink!" So I'm thinking that Cabbage Patch is doing the usual and drawing n her arms and legs with a pen. I go into the living room and what do I see? I see my two year old with a bottle of India Ink that she has poured MOST of the contents on herself and my quilt! Now before I go on, let me explain where the ink came from. Back in college 12 years ago, I took an art class to fulfill my elective slot. At one point my jackass of a teacher had us spend our hard earned minimum wage checks on India Ink and special bamboo brushes for a project - ONE project - and not even a major thing, just A day in class fooling with this shit that smells like... Well shit. Anyway, months ago my darling children were rummaging through my room and came across my art box from college - I put it away in a secure location (or so I thought...), Wednesday Cabbage Patch quietly entered my bedroom and managed to find the art box. Anyway... I see my two year old with the ink all over. I can feel my blood pressure rise immediately. Great... Now I have to scrub my toddler before everything in my house is smudged black on top of making dinner for a guest and making sure that the house is clean enough for a visitor - and I have NO idea WHEN hubby and guest are supposed to arrive. Grrr.... Why did I ever stop having my Valium and Vodka Martini lunches? So after briefly considering bundling up child and quilt and stuffing into washing machine I march both of the little people into the bathroom and start hosing and scrubbing. Sparkling clean children in less than 10 minutes! Back to the kitchen, luckily the cutlet didn't burn - back to making dinner. I discover I don't have one of the ingredients I thought I did for this dinner so I had to make something different. Go back to the living room where I discover Super Girl with a pair of scissors and some paper making snow on my carpet. Dejavu of the head exploding feeling from the other day as I threaten little people to pick up paper and blocks and SIT ON THE COUCH - they watch Spirited Away yet again as I vacuum. By the time hubby and Guest arrive, house is clean, kids are sparkling and dinner is almost done - just have to make the pasta - everything is deceptively calm.
Dinner went great, kids even ATE the food and I got to bed by midnight.

MOVIE REVIEW
Jason VS Freddy
I finally got to see this movie. As a fan of the old horror and slasher movies I was really looking forward to this movie. I went with a couple of friends as hubby HATES horror movies and refused to go with me. The movie was very reminiscent of the old Nightmare On Elm Street movies more than the Friday 13th movies, which was what I was hoping as I like Freddy more than Jason. The movie had all of the ‘horror/slasher’ movie elements – group of teens sitting around drinking on a rainy night, slutty girl fucking her jackass boyfriend (first victims), door/window left open, prude girl (survivor), bumbling police force either trying to cover something up or convinced the teens are somehow at fault, over bearing father who has a ‘secret’ and psycho sicko maniac serial killer (actually 2 this time!). No big surprises in the movie – come on how many movies have there been before this? It’s not like there are ANY secrets either Jason or Freddy have at all. One of the best things in the movie was the clips from past movies that they incorporated in, my favorites being the little girls singing Freddy’s rhyme and a quick flash from one of Freddy’s first kills. I also enjoyed when Freddy was messing with Jason’s mind – that was great. My only complaint – not enough fighting between Freddy and Jason. Not going to tell the ending – not that it’s a huge surprise but it would render seeing the movie pointless if you knew the ending. I laughed, I cried, I even jumped in my seat once – I liked it. For a slasher movie it was good, not great but good.
My favorite scene – when Jason kills the jackass boyfriend’s best friend and his dad. I almost laughed out loud

MOVIE REVIEW
Spirited Away
Last week we rented and watched 'Spirited Away'. This is a Japanese movie that Disney bought and translated into English. Part of the conditions of the sale was that Disney not change any of the content or cut any of the movie. Miyazaki is who actually made the movie. He's made several movies and has a huge following in Japan, I can understand why, his movie is a master piece.
About the movie - this is kind of an odd movie to anyone who doesn't watch much Jap anime - and I don't, but I did find the movie intriguing enough to turn away from the computer and watch it. When hubby put the movie on I was sitting at the computer not very interested at some point I turned around and was enchanted by the art work. The animation is beautiful and very detailed. I sat there starring at the screen trying to absorb everything. By the time the movie ended I was wishing there was another 5 or 10 minutes left and had the feeling that I had somehow missed quite a bit in the movie. The next day the little people wanted to watch the movie again and I had no problem saying yes to that. This time I watched the movie from the very beginning, and again at the end I had that feeling of having missed something - not something essential to understanding the movie, but something else. There are a lot of things that happen in the movie or some of the characters in the movie that you get the feeling are symbolic of something else and yes you get the distinct impression that the story is not just about a 10 year old girl who winds up in the spirit world but there is a much deeper meaning to all of this. Hubby and I discussed the movie and the symbolism and speculated on the things we didn't quite understand for well over an hour. I enjoyed the movie and the art work - the simplicity and yet detailed beauty were delightful.
All total I've watched the movie 5 times. After the last time there was still that nagging feeling that maybe 5 or 10 more minutes were missing from the ending. I went online and searched out information on Miyazaki and Spirited Away. I found an interview with Miyazaki where he explains what the movie is about and suddenly it all made sense. My inability to grasp everything was not from me being dense it was from my lack of knowledge about Japan and Japanese culture.

'Spirited Away' is well worth watching (it's won several awards) - not your typical animated movie.

If It's Not One Thing, It's Another...
I mean that litterally... If it's not one thing (spilled on my floor), it's another (thing spilled on my floor). *sigh* Let me start from the begining. First I was born.... no, no.. I guess that's to far back... OK, let's see... first I had Super Girl... then I had Cabbage Patch.. I guess that's about where it started... but today, today started at 7:00 am with the little people wanting breakfast. This is about 30 minutes early for them. I was tired. My evil psychotic cat was opening my door and waking me at 3 am. I got out of bed to get a drink of water and discovered that the air pump attached to the fish tank had fallen off the counter and was no longer pumping air into the fish tank. I reattached it and checked the fish, they were all clustered on one side of the tank near the bottom. All were alive but they looked rather sluggish. Hmmm... I stayed up for a bit to make sure they were going to make it. Anyway... back to 7 am. I gave the kids the last two slices of cheese cake for breakfast (hey it was fast and they liked it). Everything was going well today, both of the little people were good.
As the day progressed to evening I had the thought that I would do my yoga tape before getting things out for the kids to paint with. My motivation was that the little people were being good. Part way though the tape Super Girl goes to potty in my bathroom, when she returns I can smell nail polish. She had wanted to paint her nails earlier this morning. I told her to have a seat on the couch for a time out while I finished my yoga tape. *sigh* within 5 minutes Super Girl is yelling from my bedroom doorway "Mamma, she got the nail polish!" I stop the tape and go to my bathroom. Cabbage Patch had snuck into the bathroom and got the bottle of nail polish that Super Girl had been messing with. It was ALL OVER THE FLOOR and ALL OVER HER HANDS AND FEET. Great, great, just what I wanted to do... clean paint off my bathroom floor and my toddler. Good thing I buy nail polish remover in the big bottles. I got it all of the toddler, and got most of it off the floor. But red nail polish is not very forgiving so where the majority of the nail polish was pooling it's still pink. Allright... 30 minutes later - I tell both kids to sit on the couch for time outs and put the yoga tape back on (what the hell was I thinking?). 10 minutes from the end of the tape Super Girl has gone into the kitchen and I hear her messing with the loaf of bread. I tell her to stop that I will make dinner soon. No answer. I tell her again to stop messing in the kitchen and come back to the couch. she mumbles something about wanting a snack. I tell her no I'm going to make dinner soon. she starts to whine and comes into the room with a piece of bread. We have an exchange that ends with her being sent to her room and I go into the kitchen. I see her stool near the counter. I see the jar of peanut butter on the stool. I see the bread on the stool and next to it a large pool of syrup that is dripping on the floor. Cabbage Patch is crouched in front of the stool with a syrup sopped pieced of bread looking innocently at me. I have the sudden feeling that my head is going to explode and I walk slowly to the foot of the stairs so I can call for Super Girl to come down. I make her clean the syrup. And now.. I'm wishing their father wasn't out tonight so I could go for a long walk by my self. Hmmmm... that yoga tape was supposed to relax me but for some reason I feel even more stressed than when I put the tape in! *sigh* why, why, why didn't I buy that bottle of wine on Friday?
Busy, Busy, Busy
So today turned out to be a fuck load busier than I anticipated. I got up early to take hubby to work so I could cash his check and deposit the cash in our checking account (I do this because our fucked up bank holds his check for 3 - 5 days otherwise - and that is baaaaaaad). Today hubby's boss didn't hand out checks at exactly 8 am as is his custom, but decided to wait 30 minutes to turn over the checks to desperate employees. And there I was... In the parking lot... In a small car... With 2 children... Who were not in the custom of WAITING.... By the time hubby got there both kids were whinny and I was searching my purse for a miracle tranquilizer or antidepressants - then I'd flip a coin to see if I took it or split it between the kids... sheesh. So we leave and head to cash the above mentioned check - at the same place as last time - the Oriental run donut shop/check cashing place. No shit from the clerk today and the kids were thrilled to get glazed donuts. I headed off to the grocery store that has a branch of my bank in it. It was about 9 am when I got there, guess what? The bank wasn't open yet. When I inquired as to the opening time I was told it was at 10 am. 10 AM!!!! A whole fucking hour! In the store! A whole fucking hour in the store with the little people!!! SHIT. We proceed to shop. We are hardly even halfway down the first aisle in produce and the little people are out of the toy car thing that is attached to the cart (why don't they have a large dog crate attached like that? One that only opens from the outside. Any store that had that would get my exclusive business) I'm already muttering threats through clenched teeth and counting to 10. Apples, bananas, oranges, cucumber, butternut squash, green beans and a tomato later we head to the next section - the beer and wine! I take an enormously long time browsing that section much to the little peoples distress, I even contemplated a bottle of cheap white zinfandel but ultimately decided to pass as I would be driving home after lunch and I really don't need another ticket . ;o) We FINALLY spend ONE hour in the store and the bank is open. I make it through the check out having only spent $30 in groceries for this week. Made the deposit and headed home. Sheesh. We get home a little after 10:30 am. Grr... Most of my morning wasted. Groceries put away, then I go searching for something for the kids to wear - this morning it was unusually cool for us and the little people were acting like the 63 degree weather was going to freeze them. Leave at 11:30 am to have lunch with hubby. We dine on delightfully greasy burgers. The little people are in awe of their $.50 jewelry purchased from the coin operated machines - you would have thought I had just given them something from Tifanys! By 12:30 or so we are headed home. A glance at the gas gage on the way home reveals that I'm in need of gas SOON. Ahhh great... And guess what, I've taken a wrong turn and am not exactly sure where I'm at. I figure since this is a major road it will hook up with something familiar soon - and for once I'm actually right. We get to the gas station a block from my town house and Super Girl informs me that she needs to go potty. Cabbage Patch is asleep. I tell her to hold it we will be home soon. I fill up. It takes maybe 5 minutes. I get in the car - she's wet her pants. *sigh* Home again. Cabbage Patch is again awakened and not happy. I put her in her bed for nap, she screams. Tell Super Girl to strip and get in the tub. I bathe with her (hey, I'm a mom... It's a common practice. I'd rarely ever get a bath if I didn't). When we get out Leila is still screaming. I go upstairs and see what the fuss is about. She stops. I head down to dry Super Girl's hair. It's quite funny to blow dry a 4 year olds hair - she was amused and intrigued yet terrified and repulsed by the experience. hehehe... When I'm done, Cabbage Patch is out of bed - no nap yet. Ok, fine, come on down. I start dinner, do laundry and suddenly it's after 3 pm! Where the hell has the time gone? I needed to get to the post office today! I get the kids dressed and we pick up hubby at 5 pm. Kids are whining. Back home for dinner. Change kids AGAIN. Head off to hockey game with brother in law, sister in law and nephew. Oh MY Gosh! That was so much fun! It was a Minor league team - the farm team for the Dallas Stars I think. The game kicked ass! 3 fights. The Texas Tornados won 10 - 2! The other team sucked ass - they must have been asleep. Many many hot men there to look at also. The kids actually enjoyed the game. A photographer took a pic of Cabbage Patch as she was trying to blow the big blimp balloon away - she was cute. When we got to the car after the game Super Girl tells me she has to potty. I consider telling her to wait until we got home - 15 minute drive, then I decided I'd rather not clean urine out of my car a second time today and asked her if she could squat down and pee in the bushes. She said yes she could - she was almost excited to do that! Hubby was MORTIFIED that she had peed in the bushes outside the mall (that's were we had to park since the parking around the arena was full) - hell it was worth haiving her pee in the bushes just for that reaction! We got home at nearly 11 pm - the kids were wiped out! And now.. So am I.

Would You Like Fries With That?
My dearest nephew started working at McDonald's a couple of weeks ago. He's not to keen on working for the golden arches , but hey, they boy has to have a job. In an apparent attempt to show company loyalty to McD's my 'brilliant' blond haired blue eyed nephew did the ultimate. He colored his hair RED. When he left for work one day my sister said "Have a good McDay Ronald!" to which he angrily replied "I do not look like Ronald McDonald. I have a buzz cut." and left. BWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!! 'I have a buzz cut'???? As if that would make a HUGE difference in his resemblance to the famous clown. hehehe... I'm so proud of him for putting so much of himself into his new job - heck I wouldn't be surprised to see him get a tattoo on his arm of the McD's logo.

Breakfast Club
hehe.. this was one of my favorite movies when I was in HS. Well all of Hughes movies, but THIS was the best.

Do I stutter?, You're John Bender, "The
Criminal", played by Judd Nelson, Rock on!
~Which Breakfast Club Member Are You~
brought to you by Quizilla
I actually thought I'd be the Alley Sheedy character, but Jud Nelson is much cooler than she was.
(yeah, yeah, I'm again at a lack of subject material for writing again... why do you ask?)

Fabulous Day
First I was whisked away in a fancy car, got to relax and sing along to the music while I was chauffeured to a wonderful dinner at a German restaurant followed by a decadent dessert. Exotic little presents just to make me smile then a luxurious massage and a stroll around the book store before heading back to my companions expensive ride and back home. Hmmm... I can't remember when I was pampered so much and wasn't expected to put out. My sister rocks! Yes it was my sister I was with and her expensive car, her kick ass sound system, she bought me dinner at one of our favorite restaurants, she bought me precious little knick-knacks, she paid for a massage for me at the book store and we did one of our favorite things of looking for books at Half Price.
I had a great day with my sister, she's very generous to me. We haven't been out shopping in a while and this was so much fun. I really needed a day out with her (and the little people) and I really really needed a massage! I had NEVER EVER gotten a massage before. Ahhhh... This was wonderful. It wasn't an entirely stress-free trip, I did have the little people with me (there was the trip to pick up D's SUV from the dealership and when I got Cabbage Patch out of her car seat I discovered that she had emptied her water in her lap, her shorts were soaked and she had a poopy diaper *sigh*, then the trying to order dinner at the restaurant and Super Girls' incessant whining - so much so that the waitress finally excused her self and promised to return in a few moments - I'm sure she was hoping that we would just leave and she wouldn't have to witness that scene again, and who could forget the screaming fits, the momma threats through clenched teeth and the sulking in the book store) - but it was a wonderful day. I wasn't at home doing laundry, cleaning the living room and I haven't even touched the vacuum all day long! :o)
Thank you D!

More On Hope
Unintentionally I spent about an hour with Hope today - Hope that's what I'm going to call the African woman. I scheduled Hope as my last appointment of the day, I did that intentionally so that I would not be rushed with her and I could make sure that she had really good photos of her baby. I ended up spending so much time with her because the nursery nurses were being lazy asses today and would not bring Hope her baby. Hope is having some issues with her lungs and really can't walk down to the nursery to get her baby herself. When Hope's baby finally arrived an hour had passed that I had been in her room listening to her musical exotic voice as she told me about her country and herself.
Hope comes from Zimbabwe her husband was from The Ivory Coast. She has two other children - 7 and 8. Hope also has a masters degree. She hasn't been in the US for more than 3 or 4 years. She told me how lucky I was to be an American where there are so many opportunities but was baffled at the masses of lazy people who just don't want to work. Her husband works two jobs now, I think so they can save money to return to Zimbabwe and buy a house. She told me how the economy in her country is bad but that the American dollar is very powerful there, how one can go with $10,000 American dollars and buy a house there, buy a lot of things. She didn't want to return to Zimbabwe now though, she said that the current president is not good and does not think of the country enough. She said so many more things, I listened intently as she spoke, hypnotized by her accent, enchanted by her sparkling eyes.
When my time with her was finish I was sad that it was time to go. I felt as though I had spent time with a wise sage and was sad that my flawed human memory would not record every word that she had uttered. I left feeling thankful for being lucky enough to have been born in America with so many opportunities. I was thankful for my life and my health and I really really hope that Hope lives a long prosperous life.

Hope Springs Eternal
Every so often in my line of work I come across someone who makes me stop and really think about my life. One time it was the 40 something parents who were having their newborn taken away by child protective services for an undetermined amount of time because the mother had tested positive for drugs. Another it was a beautiful baby that was being given up for adoption, the mother was just a teenager who had a nasty drug habit. Then there was the couple who had been married for 19 years and told early in their marriage that they would never be able to conceive or the mom who only had one working ovary (and only 50% at that) and her husband had a very low sperm count who after 10 years of marriage were shocked and elated to have a baby girl. The baby in NICU that was born with no stomach muscles. All of these experiences have made me thankful for the healthy children I have and many times made me thankful for the life I have. Out of the hundreds and hundreds of babies I have photoed I remember these people, most everyone else is just lost in the masses of faces I see each week, but these I remember. Today I met another face I'll remember for a while - maybe even forever.
I had three people on my list who were discharges for today. I got to my last one and there was an odd sign on the door saying not to use that door. What? I tracked down the nurse who was assigned that patient for the scoop. The patient was in an isolation room and I would have to go through the isolation door so I could gown up and glove up before entering then scrub up when I leave. One of the other nurses asked why, if she had some thing infectious (this is actually not that uncommon in NICU - sometimes babies get certain bacteria and we have to gown up in addition to our gloves then wipe down the cart to not spread the bacteria to well babies). The answer was one I didn't expect. The mom has HIV. The nurses talked back and forth for a moment as I thought about that. HIV. I immediately got a picture of what kind of woman this must be. I figured the mom wouldn't want pictures, she was probably low income, had a drug problem, a sleazy type woman... What other kind of woman would be having a baby while HIV infected? When I was finally able to go into the room what I saw was vastly different than what I had pictured. She was a painfully thin African woman. She looked very tired but wanted pictures of her brand new baby and she even knew what she wanted to order. I immediately was embarrassed by how I had prejudged her just by hearing HIV. It was hard to understand her because she had a very thick accent but I got the message of when she wanted me to come back and take the pictures and that she wasn't feeling very well at the moment. When I returned mom was feeling better but very tired, the baby was in the nursery because of her exhaustion so we rescheduled for tomorrow as she was being held for an extra day until she was better. She was a very nice woman, she thanked me and called me sweetie in her musical lilting voice when I left. I was touched by her optimism despite her HIV status. I don't know if I would be quite so optimistic in the same situation, I might be very resentful to know that I would probably not live to see my child become an adult or guilt and fear that I may have passed along the virus to my infant while in utero. She had none of that. She had hope. My heart aches for her situation, yet her optimism was contagious and I couldn't help feel her hope also. My life was put in perspective in those 5 minutes.

Recapturing My Inner 6 Year Old
Today it's raining, pouring really. The little people were about to pop at the seams, they wanted to go outside! So... I let them. Out we went in the pouring rain. We ran up and down the sidewalk laughing until we were all soaked to the bone. The little people loved it. It was cleansing for me. It only lasted 5 or so minutes - that rain was cold! Then back inside, change to dry clothes and time for lunch. And of course the little people want to go back out now. ;o)

I hadn't intended to write anything about 9/11 - I remembered it just hadn't intended to write about it. I guess I figured there were enough news articles and memorials going on today that I didn't need to do so. I was just checking the blogs I usually read - on one persons blog she was whining as usual and I had made up my mind I was going to write about how whining selfish people bug the shit out of me, then I went to my last blog on my list. Posted were pictures from 9/11, pictures of the rescue workers and wreckage, of memorials and big strong men crying and praying. I forgot how painful it was to see those images. It seemed that the world stood still for a while after 9/11. Terrorism became a household word. Images of terrorist became a normal occurrence on the news. Fear and hurt was behind everyone's eyes.
This is my memories of September 11, 2001.
It was my first day of work. Hubby and I were driving the little people over to my aunt for her to watch them while I worked. 5 or so minutes before we got to her house we heard a report on the radio that a plane had crashed into the WTC. At first we thought it was a joke, then we realized it wasn't. I thought maybe it was a small single engine plane that someone had crashed, not a huge 747. When we got to my aunt's house we asked her if she was watching the news, she stated she wasn't and we told her to turn it on now, someone crashed a plane into the WTC. '"Oh my God..." was all we could mutter as the television lit up showing footage of the plane crashing into the WTC, then the footage of the second plane smashing into the other tower in a ball of fire. I was baffled, I could not fathom how this could happen. Two passenger jets crashed into the towers, that had to be some kind of horrible mistake. I didn't even think of terrorism. We had to leave so hubby could get to work on time. On the way to his work we listened in utter shock and disbelief to the radio report the events. When I got to work for my first day of training Tami was waiting for me, she went through my training and we talked about what happened. In each room we went the television was showing coverage of the attack. New Moms were focused on this instead of the little blessings they were holding in their arms. The nurses had turned on a television in one of the empty rooms and they were all huddled in there watching the footage. We joined the nurses to watch and watched as the first tower collapsed then the second. I was too shocked to cry. Still hoping it was some sick joke.
When I left work and got to my aunt's house to get the little people she suggested I call hubby because buildings were being closed down. They closed his building. He came home early. I learned of the other two planes, the one that hit the Pentagon and the one in Pennsylvania and felt a horrible sick feeling in my stomach. My aunt is a Col. in the army and she had just left her term at the Pentagon just a few weeks prior. A dear friend of mine lives in Pennsylvania and I didn't know how close the crash was to him. Later that evening I spoke to him, he told me how he had stood on his front porch and could see the thick black smoke from the crash, he was less than 5 miles from the crash. I was relieved he and his family were unharmed.
We sat on the sofa and watched the footage. I remember nursing my 6 week old infant as the politicians sang America the Beautiful. I cried, we all cried. We watched the footage late into the night not sure if another horrible terrorist attack was going to happen as we slept.
And the next day... The sun came up, we went to work and life went on, not the same but we were still alive and we were all thankful for that.
In the days since 9/11 much has happened. The world has changed a lot and yet it's stayed the same in a lot of ways. The coverage of the incident got to be over done, the attack somersaulting, people became jaded. I did. I haven't even turned the television on to a news program today, didn't even think of it. I didn't want to watch yet another insincere memorial service. Yet the pictures made me think and made me weep. No words, just pictures from the event 2 years ago. Just a reminder that terror can strike us too.
Yesterday my friend Anat who lives in Israel sent a note. The most recent suicide bombings happened very near her. One person killed at the cafe' was the daughter of a childhood friend of hers. A father and daughter were two people killed at the hospital. He was a Dr. there and she was to be married the next day. This was the only time for father and daughter to have some time together before she wed. Now all the guests who had come to see a wedding would be attending a double funeral instead. Very sad.
We are lucky terror attacks are fairly rare in this country. Anat lives in constant fear for her and her family. I don't know if this 'war on terrorism' is a winnable war.

My inner child is six years old!
Look what I can do! I can walk, I can run, I can
read! I like to do stuff, and there's a whole
big world out there to do it in. Just so long
as I can take my blankie and my Mommy and my
three best friends with me, of course.

Strange Thoughts
Today an insurance agent I met with last week called to follow up with me. When he was here last week I kept thinking that visually he kind of reminded me of one of my old Sanchos. One that was particularly hot but was a jerk and wasn't all that good in bed. That amused me somewhat and distracted me as he was explaining the plan to me. Today when he called I was caught off guard by who he reminded me of. Bret one of my OTHER sanchos. The one who's wife would NOT stop e-mailing me. Very weird. Again I found it amusing and distracting. I started listening to his voice to hear how similar it was to Bret's and wasn't listening to what he was saying. Thankfully it was bed time for the little people and they were putting on a rather noisy protest so I had to get off the phone before I had to start asking him to repeat himself. It was odd and got me thinking about how I don't have a Sancho or a boyfriend and I haven't seen anyone in about 3 months. I haven't really given a crap about seeing anyone either. Who knows, maybe that will change. I got a message from someone I had forgotten about - we went out once and talked about it again but never could get the schedule right. Actually the past 3 weeks I've had 3 different people I dated contact me to find out if I'm free. Why am I putting all these men off? Why am I so ambivalent about them wanting to hook up? Am I crazy? Depressed? eh... Who knows.. I'm probably just profoundly bored.
Off to bed now.

I Have Other Things I Should Be Doing...
But I'm not. Just a quick note to clear my brain. The morning has been crazier than I had anticipated.
I forgot that the exterminator would be by today to treat for bugs (which is a good thing because I can't seem to get rid of the ants), hubby didn't do the dishes last night or this morning so I had to do them this morning. Super Girl got upset with me for giving them peanut butter sandwiches instead of waffles - Sorry kiddo mommy has to do dishes and doesn't want to make MORE of a mess. I frantically loaded the dishwasher, scrubbed the counters, swept the floor and took out the garbage as I have no clue when the pest man will be by. Cabbage Patch was pissed when she realized there was MILK in her sippy cup instead of Kool-aid and the cats are eyeing the fish tank hungrily - yes they are out of food again. *sigh* Why don't I have the willing lottery ticket???????
Anyway - the crisis' have abated now. Super Girl got past her pissyness and is watching Cinderella - after a sincere promise from mom to make waffles for lunch, Cabbage Patch is happy and so are the cats - I gave the milk to the cats and Kool-aid to the kid.
Ducks
Last night after dinner we went for a much needed walk. Off to the park (which is by the lake) for the kids to burn off some excess energy then a walk around the park. It was dark by the time we were walking around the lake and something got a group of ducks to quacking on the other side of the lake. Just moments before this happened I had told Super Girl that a group of ducks that we were passing were sleeping. Super Girl started yelling at the ducks "Quiet! Hush Quackers! You'll wake the city!" And of course Cabbage Patch had to join in. Quack!

Carrot Cake Ramblings
I was looking on a recipe sight I frequent for some recipes and for some reason I thought about carrot cake, specifically the carrot cake my mother used to make. She had a favorite recipe that she used and she would make the cake very infrequently - always stating that it was complicated to make, yadda, yadda, yadda. In the years since my childhood I have come to understand two things, 1) that she was full of shit about it being hard, it's just a cake, it's not like she had to grind the wheat into flour to make the cake and 2) that her carrot cake wasn't all that good. Her husband LOVED the cake, but for some reason she didn't make it for him very often - maybe once a year (and not even for his birthday!) - that I don't understand... maybe she didn't like him nearly as much as she claimed to... eh... back to the cake... My sister hated this cake. It wasn't my favorite thing for her to make... actually.... nothing she cooked was my favorite, that's why I started doing all the cooking when I started high school. I was looking through all the recipes and noticed that a lot of them had pineapple in them, mom never put that in her cake – I guess her asshat husband didn't like it that way... who knows, maybe she was to lazy to open a can of pineapple. I also noticed a few other things in most carrot cakes that mom didn't have in hers, and I thought "hmmmm... no wonder her's sucked." Carrot cake isn't one of my favorite cakes, I don't mind it, but I generally avoid it unless I am the one who makes it. Why? Because most carrot cakes have raisins in them and I consider cooked raisins to be vile and disgusting. Anyway... thinking about the carrot cake and the raisins reminded me of something... and this is one for the TACKY WEDDING category.
A long time ago, an acquaintance of mine got knocked up and decided to marry the looser sperm donor. I got the honor of being her maid of honor at her slapped together justice of the peace wedding. The reception was held in the upper room of a local Chinese restaurant (the food kicked ass) and the wedding cake was a three layer carrot cake with yellow frosting that had raisins in it! That gave the cake the putrid appearance of having large bugs caught in the frosting. I still giggle when I think of that.

And The Word For The Day... Unmotivated
That's me today. That's me for the past while. Well maybe not all THAT long, but for about a week or so... maybe a month. I don't know. I'm not really up for figuring out exactly HOW long I've been unmotivate. I'm also starting to slack off on thing. That really sucks. I prefer to be unmotivated but not slack. It's not major things - I still get up every morning and shower, I still cook dinner every night, I still clean my house, still changing my underware daily, it's just the little things. I haven't made my bed in ... eh... it's been a while... my bathroom counters are all cluttered because I don't put things away... And the laundry, I'm doing it, I'm folding it, but unless I walk right into my bedroom and put it in my dresser, it's just going to sit on the end of my bed until I wear it. The worst part is that I absoutly loath that I'm slacking, but I'm completly unmotivated to actually DO anything to change that. I mean I THINK about how I need to change it, but putting the plan into action just doesn't happen. And I...
Eh... ya know what... I'm not even motivated enough to finish this...
I'm going to go to bed now, who knows I might make it to the bedroom door, become so unmotivated I decide to sleep right there, and hate it but be too much of a slacker to move. eh... I'll let you know tomorrow.

Missed Class Due to Bridge Being Out
Has that ever happened to you? No? hmmm… well it happened earlier this week when I went to take Super Girl to her dance class – her first dance class of the semester. Ya see, we walk from our town house through the park to the community center where the dance classes are held. We have to pass over a bridge that crosses the creek that feeds into the lake, and that bridge is low – very low. So Tuesday I think nothing of the fact that it had rained here most of the weekend and most of Monday. We walk through the park and get as far as the bridge where I see water rushing over it. Hmmm…. Not having the ability to walk on water or jump from one side of the creek to the other I decide we would forget about the dance class and just feed the two rather large ducks that approached us as we walked through the park. These ducks are massive – I would safely guess they weigh 20 or 25 lbs. We fed them LOTS of bread and half a bag of stale microwave popcorn – we fed them so much that I was in fact worried that either or both of the ducks would pop at any given moment. After the duck gorging we headed home. Wednesday was the wedding. Today the dance instructor called and told me that we could come today and Super Girl could make up her class. YAY! It hasn’t rained her since Monday so I figure that bridge won’t be under water today. Off we go, leaving a bit early just incase my calculations of water height is wrong and we have to trek out to find an alternate route to the community center. Lucky for me I was correct, the water had receded and we could pass over the bridge. What I didn’t figure on was that on the other side of the bridge the sidewalk would be covered in mud. Deep, thick, stinking, sucking mud. The kind that you step in and it makes that sickly sucking noise when you pull your foot out – if it doesn’t completely pull you shoe off! I sent Super Girl over the mud first, I figured she was small and she could scamper across the mud relatively unscathed – I was right, she didn’t sink in that much. Myself on the other hand. As soon as I stepped in the mud my foot sunk down. *Sigh* And here I was pulling the stroller with Cabbage Patch in it. What fun. I think it took me 5 minutes to get up the hill with Cabbage Patch. We stopped for a moment so I could scrape the inches of mud off the stroller wheels and off my shoes. Umbrella strollers are NOT made for OFF ROADING!!! The good part, we made it in time for Super Girl’s dance class, the bad part – we had to go home that route. On the way back I managed to avoid the mud for the most part (it was possible going that direction but not the other way). Then we fed two different fat ducks a bag of corn chips – are they bad for ducks? I hope I don’t read about dead ducks at the lake tomorrow…

The Secret Of Parenthood – Don’t Laugh!
Last week I went to Wally-World with my sister. A trip to Wally-World is almost always traumatic just by virtue of it being a freaking Wal-Mart. Anyway, we were on a mission to find shoes for the little people to wear to the wedding (yesterday). In the kids department Super Girl was walking around and the effects of Wally-World had already sunk into her – in short she was being a little brat and not listening. She was hiding in the clothes and popping out. At one point she hits my sister. My sister tells her to stop and I tell Super Girl to come to me right now (in my best Wal-Mart mom voice). I tell her that she needs to apologize to her Aunt for hitting her. She starts arguing with me saying she DIDN’T HIT HER! I finally say she needs to apologize and that’s the end of it and she says “I’m sorry Aunt D for not hitting you.” I had to look away so I wouldn’t laugh.

Tidy Bowl, It Works On Toilets & Toddlers
No no, I haven’t taken to bathing my children in the toilet… although… they probably would enjoy that… just not gonna do that. Last night after our return from the wedding and reception we were counting down the minutes until bed time for the little people. Hubby was on the couch watching a Veggie Tales DVD for the 100th time with Super Girl. Cabbage Patch was wandering around the living room watching the show as she pulled toys out, I was uploading the photos from the wedding and reception. At one point I looked over and realized that hubby was asleep so I look around to see what Cabbage Patch is doing. I see her in the kitchen standing on a stool messing with something on the counter, I ask what she’s doing, as she turns side ways I see that she has blue on her hands and think she has gotten into some paint. “Oh no! Don’t move!” I say as I head to the kitchen to clean her up. Upon reaching the little one I see that she has blue all over her mouth and on her hands and she does NOT have paint at all. What she has is one of those toilet tablets that turn the water blue. EWWWWWWWW!!!!! I’m dumbfounded that she would put that in her mouth – it has a rather pungent smell to it. Her little fingers are stained blue – luckily I could get it off her mouth. At least her breath is fresh now. ;o) (I’m kidding of course)
No no, I haven’t taken to bathing my children in the toilet… although… they probably would enjoy that… just not gonna do that. Last night after our return from the wedding and reception we were counting down the minutes until bed time for the little people. Wedding Day
Well today is the day we are off to our friends wedding. I'm excited for them, they have been engaged for 2 years. I hope it's a nice wedding.... yet part of me hopes there's at least part of it that is horribly tacky and memorable. (I know, I'm a bitch) As I've said before, people really only remember the really tacky and appaling weddings. My own wedding is pretty much a blur... except... when my hubby dropped the wedding ring and we both said 'Shit!' lound enough that the people in the first two pews at the church could hear us... (Karma made it's way back to us years later when our oldest was learning to talk and learned to say 'Shit!'... and loved to say it at church) Friends of ours who have gotten married and had lovely weddings, well there's really not much to talk about. Mike's wedding - got nothing, it was lovely, D's wedding was lovely... but an uninvited guest made it quite memorable, a friend from church who had an enormous wedding... forgetable... I honestly can NOT remember much about that wedding, it was lovely, but nothing memorable, an old college friend of hubby's - oh yeah that was memorable - he married one of Satans daughters, she was a total bitch, one of the candles that the mothers were trying to light would not stay lit, people went up 5 times to relight that, then Daughter of Satan was a ice cold bitch at the reception, all of the grooms college mates got their revenge by throwing the groom in the air several times and catching him (I think it would have been better if they hadn't caught him the last time) pissing off Daughter of Satan to no end.
well I really should go, I need to gather clothing for the little people... and find something for hubby... he left today wearing to work what he planned to wear to the wedding. *tisk* *tisk* That man will NEVER get his gay card doing things like that. What would he do without me?

Divine Secrets
Last night we watched The Divine Secrets Of The Ya-Ya Sisterhood. I was surprised, I actually liked it. It reminded me of my family and of growing up with my mother... not the happy funny parts of the movie, the painful, angry, abusive parts. I almost turned off the movie at one point, the scene was just far to close to my own upbringing for me. I don't know if my sister has seen the movie, I am curious to know what she would think of the movie.
I liked the movie, but it left me feeling sad and angry. Sad because my mother had a lot of problems that made her act very badly and because of that she wasn't the kind of mother she should have been... she could have been. Angry because I was some what jealous that the ficticious family in the move had a happy ending, something that will never happen in my family. Don't tell me I'm being negative - I'm being realistic, or that I need therapy - been there done that, the reality of what is and is not possible in my family is all to clear to me.
Anyway - if you have a nice healthy family, watch the movie it will entertain you. If you have a dysfunctional, abusive family - watch only if you have been in therapy for a while or are starting therapy - otherwise watch at your own risk. Men - don't bother watching, it's a chick flick.

Kitty Dreams
One of my friends (L) posted that she dreamed about getting two kittens - a brown one and a black one. she speculated that the dream meant that she wants a cat, a dog and a husband (there was more to it, I'm just cutting to the end). eh, maybe. I dreamed about getting a brazillian wax last night. I remember there was someone there with me as I was getting it done, can't remember who - I think it was a man. So... what does that all mean? Does it mean I need to wax? Not really, I keep a razor in the shower for this. Do I secretly desire a brazillian wax? Maybe... There is a certain alure of not having to shave for about a month. I'm not really sure why I dreamed of waxing at all - I was watching Godzilla VS Mechagodzilla before bed - not sure how that translates into brazillian waxing. I really don't think there is much more meaning to it than some random thought going through my dreams, but hey if you think it means something - feel free to let me know.
To L: About seeking a dog and husband..... I got a dog a few years ago. I had wanted a dog for a while - so I thought. When we had a house after much talking I convinced hubby to let me have a dog. She was a 35 lb Sheltie German Shepherd mix. Nice dog. I soon realized that owning a dog was not much like I had imagined. I really didn't like owning a dog. I didn't even like my dog all that much. It was one of thoes situations where it looks really good on paper but doesn't exactly work that way in real life. And that's it. End of my little story. Just remember that when you consider getting a dog.... or a husband for that matter. Maybe you could borrow someones for a bit to get a feel of what it's like.... I'm talking about the dog L, the dog (althought getting a loaner husband can be worked out also). Good luck in your quest!

Grave Digger
The last couple of days a new Dave Matthews song has been playing - 'Grave Digger'. It gives me chills to listen to it - today it came on as it started to rain. Great song - it's really really good like the stuff that he first came out with, ya know before he kind of sold out. I will have to check out the CD this is off.
