Saturday Sweets

Ahhh yes, winter themed cakes. So happy to not do turkeys anymore. The photo is a little dark.
Snowman who can send you into a sugar coma.
Brown and white pup.
An igloo of buttercream icing! Woohoo!

Tired, need a nap.

How weird is this, I dream of decorating cakes. Then I HAVE to make make it real to stop dreaming of the cake. Kind of like the Field of Dreams for CAKE. If only it worked this way with my dreams about Bruce Willis and Vin Diesel.
Running Late

I made this today. It's so pretty!

I meant to post this earlier but I got busy getting ready to go see my gingerbread house at the festival of trees with Sarge. I have to say, my gingerbread house was not the worst looking on there so i feel pretty good about that - AND I stuck to the rules as far as only using edible materials to make the damn thing. It's 1 am and I'm tired, what an amazing evening though.

New Hair

I just changed my hair. I like it. A lot. More interesting colors in the months to come.

If you don't like it, well don't tell me because quite frankly I don't care. There's only one person's opinion that I do care about and he has already proclaimed "purple rox" (he's so damn awesome). Don't ask me WHY I did this, the answer is obvious - I wanted to.

More Insanity

Just out of the mouth of my youngest:

Sting like a beaver, look like a Cadillac.

No I didn't bother to correct here, I did however ask her to repeat that.

Here's some CAKE GOODNESS for the day.

TURKEY CUPCAKES! Woohoo! They look silly.

Out Of The Mouths of Tiny Terrorists

Said by Cabbage Patch as she was looking at a shirt with a Star of David on it "oh pretty, a star of Craig."

Walking back from the dollar are of Target:
Me: Did you find anything?
Her: Nope, it was all crap.
Me: What?
Her: No, it was all CRAP.

Said by Super Girl:
Me: Where would you be if I wasn't your mother? Think about that.
Her: I'd be adopted.

Color Issues

Today I had an order for a cake that was to be periwinkle with periwinkle flowers on top. This I did. I got as close to periwinkle as I could. As far as the flowers, I wasn't totally sure what a periwinkle looked like so I improvised as best I could.

The colors are a tad off in the photo, but it's the closest I could get to periwinkle with the airbrush and frosting.

When the woman came in she was VERY upset because it WASN'T periwinkle and she wanted ROSES on top in the same color. No mention of this was on the order form. My supervisor spoke to her and discovered that she had wanted the cake to be a lilac color which just happens to be the color of periwinkles, and she wanted roses in the same color. She insisted this was PERIWINKLE. My supervisor told her I would make another cake to her liking. And she left in a huff.

I remade the cake.

And went to lunch.

While I was at lunch the woman called and apologized for being an asshat and for just being WRONG.

She loved the cake I remade and even offered to buy both cakes since she had been so unpleasant. We told her that she didn't have to. The blue cake sold 20 minutes after the lilac cake was picked up.

People are weird.

That is all.

Non Cake Related Post

I know, it's amazing that I have anything to talk about that doesn't involve frosting. Today is my first day off in... for fucking ever. My sister is on her way to Casa De Karmically Challenged as I type. As a result the Tiny Terrorists have been forced into extreme slavery... or at least that's what they would tell you. I figured that my sister might find it a pleasant surprise to not see my living room floor carpeted with dolls, toys and various pieces of dress up clothing. I myself find it refreshing to actually SEE the carpet (ew... needs a good steam cleaning). Here is the most AMAZING part, as is usual for cleaning, I spent an hour nagging them to pick up that, pick up that, pick up THAT, put it away or throw it away, put it away or throw it away, put it away or I'll shovel it ALL in the TRASH and finally I picked up the time out timer and set it for 20 minutes. I told the offspring that they had 20 minutes to clean up. AMAZINGLY they actually cleaned, quickly with a MINIMAL amount of whining. AND they enjoyed it! They were all excited about the prospect of beating the clock.

Although this method only brought loud whines when I employed it for them to clean up their toy area. Hmmmm... so fickle these offspring of mine.

Just a Small Breed

I then vacuumed the floor. I know, that's thrilling. My vacuum cleaner sounded like it had asthma so I flipped it over and realized there was a huge amount of HAIR and thread wrapped around the brush. I grabbed my scissors and cut off enough of MY HAIR to build a pretty good sized Chihuahua. MY HAIR! As I kept pulling more and more of it off I wondered why I am not completely BALD? And WHY was it only MY hair and no one else. Makes me wonder if my cats are hacking up MY hair when they have hair balls and not their own. No one else seems to shed around here. Makes me want Coco to visit just so I could blame some of this on her.

I gotta go back to cleaning now.

Re-Runs

Yeah, I know, looks like a I cake I did last week. So sue me. I'm reusing my ideas. I'm stuck on making bright cheerful clownish cakes. They make me happy to see them.

Not much to say, today we did our Thanksgiving lunch at work. It was good. No turkey. The best dessert was a CHEESECAKE thing that looked sooo good I was tempted to eat a whole plate of it and be damned the suffering that would happen. But... sanity kicked in and I just ate some damn brownies.

I want CHEESECAKE!

Okay, that's all.

Parting Is Such Sweet Sorrow

Today I bid farewell to the damned gingerbread house. I couldn't help but tear up as it was carried out and off to the charity auction. Inside I was a bundle of conflicting emotion, part of me wished them to trip and for the cursed gingerbread house to smash on the fucking floor and the other part of me wanted to take a hammer to it. I kid, I kid. I wasn't completely satisfied with the results and was irritated that I only had this past week to work on it, but I did feel a sense of pride that I had in fact finished and had managed to fix my serious mistakes along the way. It's been an enormous learning experience that was not all together unpleasant. As is par for the course for me, my displeasure and dissatisfaction has left me planning for next year. I am insane.

CAKE OF THE DAY!

Ya know, if I ACTUALLY LIKED football, I'd probably think this was pretty cool. But, whatever. I did however inadvertently fuck up the surprise of the cake by trying to call the person who ordered the cake to ask a question. The person getting the cake answered and was all "Oh, she ordered a cake?" when I said I needed to ask her a question regarding the cake she ordered. Oops.

Tomorrow is MONDAY and I'm really hoping to have time to do some pretty arty cakes for the display case.

It Is Done!

The front. Yes, the sleigh is made out of poptarts.
Nice landscaping. I want marshmellow bushes.
Elves with packages.
Ohhhh how many of you will be getting that?
Of course Santa has the hook up on the penguin front.

Weekend Cakes

You people and your addiction to pictures of cake. Today is baby shower cakes! I did two variations of the same cake. This is my favorite of the baby shower cakes. I enjoy the cowboy boots.
This is the other one. I forgot to put the little pink toy things on the cake because the lady showed up an hour early and waited around for it to get done. No worries though, she was happy with the cake.

I Blame It On Her Lack Of Oxygen At Birth

Cabbage Patch came into my bedroom and asked me to put her hair in a French Fry. I said "What?" and she said "You know, that braid thing, French fry." French BRAID dear, French BRAID!
New Day, New Cake

Well I've finally made some progress on this damn gingerbread house. I finally feel like I will get it finished and it won't utterly shitty. Though I did tell the store director that I wanted to smash the damn thing and just call it Santa's Bombed Out Shack. He liked that.

I did a lot of cakes today and even some cupcakes, none of them were all that interesting except for this one.

Well that's about it. I'll probably go into work as soon as K gets home. I don't want to lose the momentum on this gingerbread house that I seem to have at the moment. Wish me luck.

Better photos of the Pink cake

In Need Of Motivation

Blah. I just want to sleep for the next 20 hours. But... I CAN'T. As soon as K gets home I have to head back to work. Or I should say to GINGERBREAD HELL. Yes, yes I know this is amusing to many of you that I'm having such difficulty with this damn thing. Fuck off.

Last night Sarge and I headed off to the candy store so I could procure some of the last supplies for the damned house. Sadly I didn't find exactly what I was looking for. Eh, no matter, we had a fun time and somehow mysteriously ended up at Jason's Deli even though we were headed for Chipotle.

Today was yet another day of WORK. I made cakes. Blah. I made a wedding cake. The same damn style as the other wedding cake. Terribly disappointing as I'd very much like to do something DIFFERENT. And if I ever get finished with Gingerbread HELL and finished with the holiday orders I'll have time to do the display wedding cake and you can bet money that it won't look like this!

I did cupcakes today also:

Something for Daisy Scouts. I airbrushed all of the cupcakes. I'm awesome (in my head).

Blah. Not motivated to write more.

Rest For The Wicked

Well I have a day off. But not really. I'm about to get a shower, pick up the last stuff for the gingerbread house and go into WORK. I think I fucking LIVE there. GINGERBREAD HELL! When my sister and I were young we used to joke about what HELL would be like, figuring it would be 100 times worse than ones worst tasks in life. We used to say our hell would be spent in a hot garage with 300 cats having to change litter boxes and feed the cats smelly nasty canned food. Today I think my hell would be me in a gingerbread house that smelled like a cat box and filled with fucking yappy ass crotch sniffing dogs with the occasional cameo by some of my WORST dates eveah. Woah, wow, am I bitter about this? Where did that cookie hate come from?

Moving on....

Yesterday at the end of the day I found a big blob of green icing in my hair.

AND because I know you only come here to see CAKE. Here it is.
Excuse the crappy quality of photos. I only had my cell phone with me.

I'll try to take another photo with my camera today when I go back to gingerbread hell.
Okay, off to shower so I can get this gingerbread thing done.

Had a Bad Day

...
You stand in the line just to hit a new low
You're faking a smile with the coffee you go
You tell me your life's been way off line
You're falling to pieces every time
And I don't need no carryin' on

Because you had a bad day
You're taking one down
You sing a sad song just to turn it around
You say you don't know
You tell me don't lie
You work at a smile and you go for a ride
You had a bad day
The camera don't lie
You're coming back down and you really don't mind
You had a bad day
You had a bad day...

***
Not been an excellent day. I'm tired, I need a day off to ... I don't know, drink coffee, eat bonbons, read comic books and spend with Bruce Willis. *sigh* Not going to happen. I have to go back up to work tonight to finish some things minus other people in the bakery. Okay enough whining about that... well not really, but I'll add pictures now!! Woohoo!

Part of my Stress

My BORKED Gingerbread house. Fucking gingerbread house. I'm running out of time to work on this bitch and it's getting mutha fuckin' busy in the bakery. I finally got it assembled today - well hopefully, I actually left it right after I put the roof on. Earlier today, as you can see I fucking broke one of the pieces. Thankfully the icing stuff worked to glue it together. I had so much trouble assembling this shit. I got the house put together and then when I went to put the roof on the first time the walls came apart. Fuck. The icing didn't set in the 2 hours like it said it would. Damn. Hopefully when I go to work it won't be in shattered pieces on the floor.

At one point today... I had to do something to de-stress.

I made...

INAPPROPRIATE GINGERBREAD PEOPLE!!

Here is poor amputee gingerman. It's his own fault for having such tasty limbs!

Oh look! It's gingerwoman! See, the curtains do match the carpet. (But trust me, those boobs are FAKE!)

Oh my! Cookie porn! Gingerman and Gingerwoman having sexy time. Oh yeah!

I'm sure I could have been fired for making those. But... WHATEVER! I needed something to amuse myself. I wanted to bring them home so I could take them to Bruce Willis tomorrow but I just couldn't figure out how to get them out of the store without being busted... and not as in them getting broken, as in ME getting BUSTED with them. "Oh... um... what cookies? Oh my... Um.. no, they aren't mine, I swear! I was just holding them for a friend!"

Okay, I'm done whining. Enjoy the cookie porn... I know you are... I know it's making you all hot and soft, like a freshly baked cookie. Mmmmmm... that's making me... HUNGRY!

Busy Day

Lots of cakes to do today. Got called back in late to preform a miracle. Yay me.

No conversation to be had, just look at the cakes.

This cake makes me think of circus clowns. If you know any clowns having a birthday soon, come get the cake. (ps I dropped this cake as I was getting ready to put in the freezer case - luckily the protective plastic case kept it from becoming a pile cake on the floor, but I have to fix the trip tomorrow)

Again with the clown theme! I like the dots!

And blogger is being a bitch so I can't load the last photo.

Off to bed now.

Your intentions are almost always meant well and all this positive karmaic energy is bound to come back to you in a great way!
Going FAST!

I made this cake right before I left work today at 2:30 pm. I stopped by the store right after 4 today (to drop off the gingerbread house kit) and it was GONE! Yikes! I was actually hoping it would stay in the display case for at least a few days. Or maybe even go out of date and be used as a display cake.

This was a baby shower cake. It's very cute, I hope they have some insulin on hand when they eat it because that cake has a LOT of icing on that cake.

This is the other cake I made for the display case. It was still there last I saw.

Gingerbread News

I purchased the kit today at Michael's. This was after an exhaustive search of any place near me that MIGHT have had the kit. And of course I had such a FABULOUS experience with Wally World and the WalMartians. I called them before going up and asked if they had the EXACT gingerbread kit I was looking for, I asked TWICE and was told that YES they DID - in the Christmas section. I go up there and go to the Christmas section only to be told that they weren't sure they had that. Call a manager who knows they HAVE them just not in the BIG Christmas section, it's in the Christmas candy section. Fine. Guess what? They don't have THE gingerbread house kit I was looking for. They have the small one there. I tell the manager that and she says that crafts usually gets the BIG gingerbread house kit so we head off to crafts and find the person who works there and miraculously they DON'T HAVE THE FUCKING GINGERBREAD HOUSE KIT! Yay. I tell the manager that I'm quite unhappy about this since I called the store and was told they had THE EXACT KIT I was looking for. She admits having taken the call but says that she was never asked about the ULTIMATE Gingerbread House Kit. I tell her that YES she was, I asked TWICE and she TWICE said it was in the Christmas section and that I wouldn't have wasted my time going to this store unless I knew that damn kit was there. Stupid bitch. Thankfully Michael's exists. I walked in, ran into an old friend from high school who pointed me to the 5 million gingerbread house kits right away. I got my kit, paid and walked out. Less than 10 minutes total.

So... hopefully tomorrow I'll have time to start the assembly of the house on the base and Tuesday I can start the decorating, Wednesday Sarge and I can go to the candy store and get the last of the decorations that I can't find at the store I work at, leaving Thursday and Friday for the final decorations. Hopefully this will be AWESOME.

Okay, I'm done for now.

If Only I Spoke Their Language

Today before I went to work I told the Tiny Terrorists two things - get dressed and DON'T EAT THE ICE CREAM! What my offspring heard was - Don't bother to change out of your Jammie's and grab a spoon, the ice cream is calling! When I came home for lunch they were still in their night shirts watching cartoons. I discovered that there had been a raid on the ice cream while I was away earning more ice cream money.

Speaking of my slaving away, I shall scream if I have to do another cake with the flag on it. Take a look.

I did all that by hand (that's a full sheet cake, serves about a hundred people), and I did it 5 freaking times! Plus all the orders for today. My hand is as sore as the hand of a 12 year old boy who just discovered masturbation.

I also did this cake.

Curious George. I hate that fucking monkey. He should be put to sleep. Him and that annoying monkey Boots off Dora the Explorer. Stupid fucking monkeys always causing trouble.

I did some others that were damn cool, but I didn't take photos because I was fucking busy and you've seen about a million Fall Leaves cakes.

Slave Labor

I've succeeded in teaching my oldest Tiny Terrorists to make me coffee. She's still young and naive, she thinks it's COOL to make my coffee in the morning. I wonder how old she has to be before I can have her make my Margaritas?

Hanukkah Planning

Note to self - Hanukkah is early this year, must start planning menu (latkepalooza!) and night with Bruce Willis. Is it too early to start PANICKING???

Friday, November 09, 2007

I HEART Lactaid

1/2 Gal of Blue Bell Neapolitan ice cream - $5.79 (Free coupon so nothing really)
1/2 Gal of store brand Reeses ice cream - $4.89 (free coupon again)
1 box of Lactaid Fast Acting - $3.69
Me eating two bowls of ice cream and not feeling like I'll puke, explode or die - FUCKING AWESOME!

Cakeness

My supervisor and I are both like zombies. Getting all these cakes done plus the regular orders and taking care of the bakery is kicking some serious ass. I'm exhausted. I'll be headed for bed very SOON.

No cake picture today, but only because I'm to fucking lazy to upload the photos. Sorry.

Terrorists Activities

Super Girl is such a 'tard some days. When I did some laundry last night I noticed that she had ripped her new camo pants (ARGGH!). This morning she wore the camo pants, I didn't even notice really since I was trying to get ready for work and shoo them out the door. Anyway, this afternoon after the terrorists return to command central (home) she lifts the back of her sweater to scratch her back and what do I see? Not just a BIG RIP in her pants but I see her shiny white ass through the rip! My progeny went COMANDO to school! Sheesh! WTF? We had to go back over the rules of what to wear to school... like PANTIES! and pants with NO HOLES in the ass! and NOT to wear the sweater that you've worn 3 times this week! Kids.

Okay, I'm off to bed.

Perspective

Some days that's all we really need, a little perspective to put things in place. A mid day chat with the best guy EVAH (Bruce Willis) helped me with that. My foul mood has lifted and things are peachy once again.
I did 6 of these for an order today. Cupcakes decorated to look like sunflowers. Very cute.
Except that's not how the customer wanted them to look... And I didn't know this until I was well into the assembly of the top cupcakes. UGH! I wasted half an hour doing that!
Damn this cake with the fall leaves is popular! I'm starting to not like it that much. The colors are a little off in this photo, but WHATEVER!

Moving on...

I guess they really like me as the cake decorator at the store. The store director told me he'd be ordering me business cards. BUSINESS CARDS! FOR ME! Legitimate BUSINESS CARDS and not goofy ass cards my sister put an obscene phrase on in Latin. Thats so cool.

There is more I want to talk about... work stuff, but... I CAN'T since it's about SOMEONE and it's WORK RELATED and that's a BAD THING to do on the INTERWEB. Just... killing... me! *sending mental telepathy to everyone reading*

20 More Done.

We finished another 20 today and have 19 more to finish tomorrow. Wow. It's been BUSY at work. I usually end up COVERED in frosting. I now know what a cupcake feels like (and I LIKE it!).

Ginger Trouble

Due to this HUGE fucking cake order, I haven't really been able to work on the gingerbread house... except for one evening of 'planning' with Bruce Wills... which was like 15 minutes of gingerbread talk and 3 hours of hanging out. It was all good. ;) I've decided I'm going to get one of those prefab kits. I want to find the Ultimate Gingerbread House Kit by Wilton, but for fucks sake I can't find where it is and I don't have time to order it off the interweb. If ANYONE knows where I can get one locally, TELL ME! Call me on my cell or text message me or something. I must get this damn thing SOON! I have one more week of working 6 days a week (actually 7 for this week) so I don't have time to go a million different places to find this thing.

And now... I'm off to bed EARLY. Cake really can be death at times.

Mid-Day Cake Fix

Home for lunch. That's all for now. Not such a good day, work is great though. Blah. Maybe if I eat one of my cakes it'll be a BETTER day.

Mushy Brain

Today I worked on part of this big ass order for 60 cakes that we have to have done by Sunday. My brain is mushy due to the sugar fumes.
Isn't that AWESOME? No, no it isn't. I hate when people combine two cakes. Sometimes it works with a birthday cake, but usually it doesn't.
Blah, kind of boring. Whatever.
5 of the 20 full sheet cakes finished today for the order of 60. Fun times.

Brain on empty. Bye-bye.

Gotta Keep 'em Separated

I only decorated 3 cakes today. One was just plain ugly. This one I actually fucked up - TWICE.

Ah if only I actually gave a shit about football I'd probably think this was COOL.

No worries, it's what the customer wants.

Cake Concerns

I've come to realize that MANY of you are just coming to this BLOG to look at CAKE! You voyeuristic people! Taking a peep at my CAKE. I should be offended but I'm not. ;) My question is, should I start a CAKE BLOG with just photos and notes of the tasty artwork I've created and save this piece of trash blog for all the usual angst, perversion and talk of masturbation that you've all come to know and love? You make the call, CAKE or DEATH? Well you know, CAKE BLOG with a cake posted EVERY DAY or just leave it here for and let you slog through all my usual minutia of my posts to get to the tasty pictures.

Gingerbread Dreams

This week is incredibly busy at work. We have an enormous order of 67 full sheet cakes that have to be done by this weekend (the order got confirmed just this morning) plus two less people in the bakery to help out and all the regular orders as well as putting all my new cakes in the display case... I'm working 6 days a week for a bit. My brain is really on over load. I can't really think past the cake I'm doing at the very moment... well that AND the ONE THING I can NOT get off my mind - doing the big display wedding cake. (I keep dreaming of doing that!) Usually my brain not working isn't an issue and no one would even notice, except I am committed to doing that GINGERBREAD HOUSE for the contest. Gah! Brain on EMPTY! Panic! Panic! Danger Will Robinson! *flailing robot arms*

Just when I think my gingerbread house entrant is going to look like a shoe box with some Twizzlers glued to it, help arrived (so to speak). The brilliant and super sexy Bruce Willis is an endless supply of fabulous ideas for a gingerbread house. Geeky, sexy and talented in the kitchen... damn I need my vibrator now. So, I'm saved on the idea front. Just have to actually assemble and decorate the house.

NON CAKE Stuff

Lately I've been playing games with K. Now don't give me that look, I'm talking about actual games, not mind games (come on people, I've already stated that my brain is on EMPTY). We played domino's a week or two ago and last night and tonight was cards. AND we've been teaching the offspring to play. It's cute and frustrating. I have no idea how my former step father had the patience to teach us to play games, much less Diplomacy at 9. Anyway, it's quite fun when I squash my intensely competitive nature. Eventually I won't feel any guilt when I beat them... kind of like how I feel when I kick K's ass. (Though he did win at hearts tonight.)

Okay, I'm off to finish my hair. Enjoy the cake pics and give me your feedback.

Dream Job

Wtf? This whole being the ONLY decorator is getting to me. Last night I was dreaming about decorating wedding cakes. Not horrible, but honestly I'd so much rather dream of molesting Bruce Willis.

No AMAZING cakes today. This is one I put in the freezer case. Pretty, nothing special though.
And here is most of what I did today. 27 cakes. That works out to 16.6 minutes to decorate each cake. Yes, yes, I know it's just MENTAL to have it worked out to how many minutes it took me to do each, but... WHATEVER!

Okay, I'm tired now. I'll blog more when my brain works again.

Damn Daylight Savings Time

After an amazing night I had to get up EARLY this morning to go to work. I ended up getting up at what I thought was 6 am but was really 5 am because I forgot about DST and setting my clock back an hour until I was sitting in front of the computer eating my breakfast and wishing I was still in bed. Then I looked at the time on my computer which seemed damn early to me. And I looked at my cell phone which said 6 something in the morning and then I looked at the microwave (because I was sleepy and nothing made sense) and I looked up the time on the web (WHAT? I just said I was SLEEPY) and THEN it dawned on me. I should still be SLEEPING! FUCK! I reset my alarm for 7 which would actually be 6 since I couldn't think enough to figure out how to reset my clock on my cell phone and went back to bed.

Getting up at the real 6 am was better but only slightly as my cat had decided she needed to perch on me and purr loudly for that 45 minutes. Damn cat.

I get to work at 7 am. During the morning I realize that I wasn't scheduled until 8 am. Fuck. I bake a cake that was ordered and then find that someone had already made the cake. Damn it. I drain the sink of water and manage to flood part of the bakery. Brilliant. I mop up the mess and manage to spill the mop bucket in a dry part of the bakery. Mutha fuck! At least I don't work in the meat market, today would have been my day to lose a finger or two on the meat slicer.

Fabulous Cake Of The Day!

Actually these are from YESTERDAY. Today's cakes weren't FABULOUS, just eh, cakes.

This is now in the display case, replacing the puppy that has been there forever.
I went back today and added whisker marks.
