Ah... something interesting to talk about....

Last night we rented a couple of movies - that's the routine - a couple of movies a week. Gosford Park and The First Wives Club. We watched Gosford Park. That was a very strange movie... but it was very very good. It had a huge cast and was sometimes hard to keep up with who was doing what to whom! It was set in the early 30's, a bunch of rich snobby people having a weekend shooting trip, they all converge on one residence with their maids and valets. The movie switches from what goes on under the stairs (with the service people) and what goes on above the stairs (the rich snobs). The movie is about 2 hours and 15 mins long, and it's a murder mystery, but no one get's murdered untill about an hour and 16 mins into the movie! Well no one physically get's murdered... a few reputations and social positions are given their RIP's. The cast is just fabulous and so well developed. All of the rich people are for the most part unredeemable human beings, stabbing one another in the back, slandering each other, sleeping with people they are not married to... being generally obnoxious people but charmingly rich lol. The service people are not that far removed, but they do have a bit more virtue than those they serve. No one is surprised at who get's murdered and no one is sorry this deplorable human is dead - well one person is sad - that is the man's valet. He is truly saddened to see this man he has served for so many years dead. Then the movie get's interesting... very interesting. I could actually tell you the rest of the movie - give away who killed this man, and still not tell you everything about this movie or even enough to make this very unsual movie any less enjoyable. The cast reads like a who's-who in British acting circles. There are several people with very impressive acting resumes - most notably is the older woman who plays the Aunt and an insufferable snob - but an interesting character - anyway - this actress has 50 years of acting and has won so many awards and recognition - I kept recognizing her from some other movie, but I could not put my finger on it - after a little research on the internet we (hubby and I) realized it was from HOOK - she played Granny Wendy. She was great in this movie, actually EVERYONE was just fabulous in this movie! I was hesitant at first, even threatened hubby for getting it- told him it better be good since it was a $3.50 rental! HAHAHAHAHA! Anyway - Gosford Park - Highly recommended! Rent it!
