*sigh* busy day. I got a call from my manager that someone had just quit - no notice... and she needed someone to fill in. Why do people do that? that is just so unreliable... Anyway.. I'll be filling in on Fridays at this hospital until they find a replacement.
Worked out again tonight - Yay me! Dh worked out also today, I'm so proud of him! Of us! Next week I'll start working on changing the way we eat. Not so much about what we eat, but how much we have been eating. Portion control. My biggest problem... I'm just glad hubby is doing this with me. It's so hard to do this alone. I'm shooting for loosing 15 lbs by the end of October. It's so damn hard for me to loose weight unless I really drastically cut back on the carbs... I mean drastically... which is very hard to do. But I can do it. Just have to get a little more disiplined with my eating habits and stick with the exercise.
Well off to bed for now.

Damn it...I don't know why that pic won't show... if you can't see the picture below - go to My Crafts
- look at the last few pics.
- look at the last few pics.
lol - well I haven't managed to get to my painting yet. I have gotten things started to make a wonder pasta sauce for tomorrow's dinner. lol. I have veggies in the oven roasting now - meatballs are already cooked and the rest of the veggies are in the crockpot with the meatballs just waiting for the rest of things to be added. I wanted to get this stuff ready now because we are supposed to have the pest people here today spraying or baiting or whatever they do. I really don't have any bugs in the apt. but it's their scheduled time to come out. I do want to talk to them about the SPIDERS!!! There are 3 fairly big spiders that keep hanging out by the door. This does NOT go over well with me as I really really hate spiders. One of them keeps spinning a web beween the two colums near the door. I keep knocking the web down. I even doused that one with hot water and it just rebuilt it's web that night. DH doesn't mind spiders but he doesn't like that one... a lady bug got caught in the web so he feels personally offended by that particular spider. *snicker* he's silly. But he does agree that 3 spiders by the door is too damn many spiders.
A - I've heard the babies birth story before, but it still makes me all teary to read it. Happy Birthday Baby L!

Last night we went and worked out. Not to sore today. :o) Then we watched Meet The Parents before bed (it was due today, so we needed to watch it last night). I've seen it before. I love Ben Stiller - he's sooo damn funny. Hubby had not seen it. So I'm sitting on the sofa laughing and laughing and he's hardly laughing at all. Damn I hate that. When you are laughing like a moron and the person your with doesn't seem to think it's all that funny...
DH told me yesterday that we needed to start Christmas shopping for the kids. YIKES! Is it that time already?!?! So today I went by Big Lots and there was a butt load of Barbie stuff and baby toys.. A bunch of electronic toys also. *sigh* Now to decide exactly WHAT to get them. eh, we have time. Nice to know it's there and it's pretty inexpensive.
Well... Im completly uninspired at the moment.... well not totally true.. I just want to get back to painting my stool! hehehehe... later...

Ahhh I feel a sense of acomplishment. I finished the little dress I have been working on. I had started it more than a month ago, but then didn't finish it. I got frustrated by the instructions... because they were not how I was doing the dress... *sheesh* how very rude of them. Anyway - it's done.. well almost. I need some buttons for it. I will take a picture of it a little later. It is very cute.. simple but cute.
In response to L's list of 5 books that had the most impact on her.. here is mine...
To Kill A Mockingbird L listed that one also. I don't imagine many people could read that and not be impacted by it.
1984 I did find the whole 'Big Brother' concept very interesting and creepy. But the REAL reason this had such an impact on me was more than the entertainment of the novel it - this book helped me graduate HS. Literally. I was a horrible student in HS. I had the same English teacher for Sophmore and Senior English, so she was very familiar with my sloppy study habits and last minute work. She gave everyone the chance to replace one test grade by reading 1984 and taking a test on it - the only catch was that you HAD to make an A on the test, and she would replace one of our test grades with a 100%. Having failed one test already I knew I had to do this. So I grabbed the book and read it and made a 94% on the test. I was the ONLY person to pass this extra credit test. And.. thanks to that test I made a 70 for that 6 weeks which was exactly what I need to keep my passing average for that year. I personally think that the teacher just could not stand the thought of me being in her class for yet another year so she made sure I passed. ;o) What ever it was, I'm thankfull.
Podkayne of Mars by Robert Heinlein A scifi novel written back in the 60's about an adolesent girl and her family. It's written kind of like her journal with some additions by her brother. LOL. I loved this novel, she was such a strong independent character. I read it when I was just starting HS.
Another Book by Robert Heinlein I can not remember the title.. I can't remember if it was Friday or another book... he wrote so many and I read just a few of them... This one was about a futuristic society of perfect people, except for this one woman who was over weight and all and was generally shunned by her peers. She was lonely, isolated and jaded. She get's an amazing opportuity to change it all and put her conciousness into a perfect body.. a mechanical body so to speak... and she does... but for a price. It's a great book... and it made me really think about how life is what you make it... even thoes who look perfect, or like they have a perfect life, have their own issues to deal with. Kind of a 'grass is always greener on the other side' book.... except.. not exactly.. It was a very enjoyable book.
Well for the last one.. I have to be like L and give several
'Dead Zone', 'Cujo' and 'Christine' by Stephen King these books made me afraid of the closet, realize that even the most benign can be deadly and be careful who you fuck with, karma balancing can be a bitch... My nightmares became more interesting after these books ;o) Thanks Stephen..
The Moon Is A Harsh Mistress by Heinlein Politics suck, what ever planet you live on
Tale of Two Cities by Dickens One of the few books that was 'required reading' in HS, that I loved.
Daughters of Copper Woman I can't remember who wrote this, it's a Native American book that explains the beginnings of humanity. It all started with a woman. ;o) I did not finish this book - it was very odd, but the reason it made an impact was how it explained the origins of men. The first man was called Snot Boy. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Well there it is, the list of crap that has helped to form my little intelectual being. hehehe... weird isn't it. Some days I realize that my literary interests are basically akin to McDonalds fries and a Big Mac or Twinkies and a bag of chips. I'd like to expand my horizons and reach for something more like a 5 course gourmet meal, but I think I'd even be happy moving up to something like meatloaf and mashed potatoes. hmmm...... food symbolism... I think I better go make lunch ;o)

L - HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! on the furries thing. I had read the subsequent articles on that and was quite creeped out. Hubby and I had a few dialogues (and laughs) on that subject also. Just a note... Do not go to the sites linked in any of the articles... it's just more than any one fairly normal person needs to know about that subject... *shudders*
I will post the Honey Cake recipe. This one does have the spices you mentioned, it tastes more like a spice cake, but it's very good.
Thank you for more illustrations! I absolutly love them. I've totally changed my mind as to what I'm going to paint on the stool I am painting. Instead of flowers and butterflies I'm going to put some fairy story illustrations! I know my kids will LOVE them. I'll take pictures when I finish them.
I loved your list of books.. I'll have to do that also.. I need to put some thought into it though so I don't come off as a completly uneducated oaf though. I have always been curious about I, Vampire. I will have to look for it. To Kill A Mockingbird is one of my favorite books also. I don't read much fiction so my book list might look pretty lame, but we'll see...
Sorry the movie was such a disapointment.. I do get pissed when I read a fabulous book only to be completly let down by the movie. Congo was like that. I loved the book, and the movie was soooo horrible... so blatantly obvious that it was someone in a gorilla suit! Sheesh... I've never seen any other movies based on Michael Chriton (sp?) books after that.. in fact... I was so offended that he would sell out such a good book that I've never read another of his books. *sigh* I loved his medical thrillers...
A - hehehehehe.. you guys.. furries... hahahahahaha! That might help with the birth control issue! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Ok.. I'm way to ammused by that. Smack me.
OK, this is how my weekend went. (if you give a damn that is! HAHAHAHA!)
Saturday: go to work, have a pretty good day at work. Get home about 3 pm, we walk to the lake to feed the ducks. So we are standing at the edge of the lake ready to start tossing pieces of bread in the water and this HUGE duck waddles over to us - RIGHT up to us. They all start walking up to us. I start laughing, and say that we are going to get mugged by the ducks! So we are laughing and thowing the bread out for them, most are hopping in the water to get the bread and that HUGE duck is still just standing there, giving us this look.. not a cute look but a demanding more bread look. I take a big hunk and toss it in his direction. It goes over his head, he goes for it like a dog. I just burst out laughing. And when we are done feeding the ducks, they won't leave us. HAHAHAHA.. I was almost afraid they would follow us home. We walk home, start talking about symbolism (goes to another conversation we had earlier that day - talking about raisins and celery.. to get a raise in salary...) and I say I hope that the ducks aren't some kind of symbolism, hopeing that we aren't headed for a flock of FUCKS soon. More laughs. Later friends came over for a game (geek, geek, geek) and that was fun. Much laughter. I tell them about 11:45 pm that it's time to start wraping it up because I have to work in the morning. At 12:30 AM, the game is over but people are still just talking so I say "All right people! Last call! You don't have to go home, but you can't stay here!" and they leave. Sheesh!
Sunday: I get up, take a shower, grab some breakfast and head back to the bathroom to dry my hair. I bend over to pick something up and go to stand up, but I can't. I have much pain in my back. I can hardly move. I do finally work my way to the floor, a hands and knees positon then up to siting then standing and manage to go wake hubby, tell him I hurt my back.. get me pain pills or something and to call into work for me. He does, he's such a good man. Poor guy was sooo asleep, I felt bad about waking him. We accomplish our goals, then I go back to bed. Blessed sleep. I wake sometime after 1 pm, have some lunch and head back to bed, hubby joins me for a nap. I awaken much later.. we discuss dinner. I am feeling much better. I hate having these muscle spasms in my back like this though... I go visit a friend for a little bit, and on the way back I notice a huge ammount of FROGS on the road around the lake. So when I get back I tell hubby, who is listening to the foot ball game on the radio, that we HAVE to walk to the lake so I can look at all the frogs.. (I like frogs...) So we do. He thinks I'm nuts, but we go. I start picking up the frogs in the road. He's surprised because they are being so docile and just letting me pick them up. I start joking that this is the Frog Rescue project as I'm picking up frogs and putting them in the grass, telling them to head back to the lake. We walk for a little while as I rescue little frogs and toss them back toward the lake (they were just sitting there in my hand for the most part.. just blinking at me... hubby said some were just suicidal..) As we get to a bridge a bunch of frogs suddenly start hopping from one side of the side walk to the other. A herd of frogs. it was weird. Then back home to watch Election.. which was a funny but bizarre movie......
thats my lame-o weekend...
And for L - here is the recipe for Honey Cake
2 Eggs, Separated
1/4 C of white sugar
1/2 C of Honey
3 TBS of oil
1 1/2 C of flour
1/4 tsp salt
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp ground cloves
1/4 tsp ground allspice
1 1/2 tsp instant coffee granules
1/2 C hot water
Directions"
Mix coffee in hot water and let cool.
In large bowl, beat the yolks with the sugar. Add the oil and the honey. Beat until the mixture is smooth and creamy.
Sift and measure the flour. Combine with other dry ingredients. Add these dry ingredients alternately with the coffee to the honey mixture, stirring only until blended. Do not overmix.
Whip egg whites until stiff. fold in three aditiions into batter. Pour into greased pan.
Bake at 325 for 35 to 40 minutes, or until toothpick inserted into the middle of cake comes out clean.
OK, that's it. I didn't use the coffee granules, I don't really like coffee, but I did like the cake. It kind of tastes like a spice cake. I liked this recipe - it seems like a good one to add things to, maybe carrots...
well must run.. sleep... again.. lol
